The Yellow River Stone Forest is located in Longwan Village, Zhongquan Township, southeastern Jingtai County, Gansu Province, 70 kilometers away from Jingtai County in the north, 70 kilometers away from Silver City in the south, and 136 kilometers away from Lanzhou. The scenic area is close to the Yellow River main stream Longwan River Curve in the north, and connected with continuous erosion of hills in the south, and the Yellow River flows through the scenic area from east to west. Scenic area covers an area of 34 square kilometers, of which the stone forest area of 10 square kilometers. Geographic coordinates are: 103.33-104.43 east longitude, 36.43-37.38 north latitude, altitude between 1340-1600 m. In January 2004 was approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources as a national geopark.
The Yellow River Stone Forest was created at the end of the Tertiary and the beginning of the Quaternary geological era, four million years ago.
