"Thousand Hands Guanyin" Tai Lihua: deaf at 2, married a polytechnic man at 27, burst into the limelight at 29 on Spring Festival Gala

Music is the soul for dancers.

But for Tai Lihua, music is just a regular beat.

That's why she once said, "If you give me three days, I'll spend all of them listening to music."

Tai Lihua was born in 1976 in Yichang, Hubei Province.

Her father worked in a shipyard and her mother was an accountant.

The birth of their daughter immersed the young couple in happiness.

Unfortunately, the child is so weak before the age of two that a slight blow can be fatal.

In 1978, Tai Lihua had a high fever that wouldn't go away for two or three days.

The doctor used streptomycin in the treatment.

Although Tai Lihua finally opened her eyes, she was unaware of her parents' cries.

At that time, Tai Lihua was still completely unaware of the changes in her body.

Gradually, her voice began to change, and her inability to speak and the hoarseness of her vocal cords made her parents' hearts ache.

The parents used to take their daughter around to seek medical help, but got the same result.

Streptomycin has destroyed the child's hearing system and she will live in a silent world.

The parents found it hard to accept this cruel reality, and at the beginning they were almost in tears all day long.

Tai Lihua didn't realize the difference between herself and other children until she was four or five years old.

At the age of five, she and her friends played a game of voice recognition, blindfolded.

When it was her turn, she couldn't perceive anything in the darkness.

Tai Lihua cried sadly that day, and only then did she realize that she was different from other children.

I remember that on her birthday that year, her mother prepared a gift for her daughter with tears in her eyes.

All the other children went to kindergarten as early as possible, but it was not until she was seven years old that she went to a school for the deaf.

At the beginning of the school, the teachers used a special way to make them perceive the vibrations from the sound.

In the rhythmic class, the teacher rhythmically stepped on the elephant foot drum, and then there were rhythmic sounds and vibrations coming from the wooden board.

Tai Lihua and the other students could not hear the sound, but they still felt the vibration through the conduction under their feet.

The rhythmic vibrations made Tai Lihua understand what is sound and what is beat.

At that time, she was almost using her whole body to perceive the most wonderful sound.

Although she couldn't hear it, Tai Lihua's perception of music was beyond the realm of sound.

She loves that beat and can feel that what it brings is pleasing to the ears.

In her spare time, Tai Lihua likes to stay close to the speakers of a tape recorder or radio to feel the vibrations of the sound.

When a dance program comes on TV, she also imagines every movement under the beat.

So gradually, the teacher realized that this little girl had a talent for dance and music.

She was perceptive and excelled in the school for the deaf.

One of the dance teachers at the school for the deaf also thought she was a rare talent.

So, Tai Lihua began to be systematically exposed to the study and training of dance from a young age.

Once, her father went to Wuhan on a business trip, and when he came back, he brought his daughter a pair of white dancing shoes.

This gift, full of love, made Tai Lihua reluctant to take them off.

At the age of 15, Tai Lihua entered the China Disabled People's Art Troupe, where she began to learn dance formally.

When she first arrived at the troupe, Tai Lihua's basic skills were the worst.

The dance "The Spirit of the Bird" was almost an insurmountable gap for her.

Tai Lihua was not discouraged, but started from the most basic training.

Not being able to hear the sound, she could only use her body to sense the beat, which in turn allowed Tai Lihua's training process to be free of distractions.

Especially in the summer, she practiced every day in long pants.

The mother peeked in one day and saw that her daughter's legs were covered with all kinds of scars.

When the mother's heart aches for her daughter, but Tai Lihua feels that for the ideal in her heart, all the effort is worth it.

The beats of "The Spirit of the Sparrow" are more than 700, and Tai Lihua, who can't hear the sound,

memorized them by feeling them a little bit.

At the end of the practice, she was able to perform all the movements without any mistake, and she could not see any difference in the flow of water.

Behind how much hard work she has put in, everything is only clear to Tai Lihua herself.

After that, she soon followed the troupe to perform abroad.

It was winter at that time, but during the training, Tai Lihua, wearing a single jacket and pants, was still sweating.

Her knees were even abraded, bleeding and swollen.

None of this is an obstacle, because Tai Lihua knows that in a world without sound, dance is its own voice.

This persistence allowed Tai Lihua to progress quickly.

After studying dance for a few years, Tai Lihua wanted to study like a normal young person.

She began to choose a school, but not all schools were willing to accept deaf people because of the special characteristics of her body.

In the end, Tai Lihua entered the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts.

Four years of college life made Tai Lihua's life experience more full and strong.

It was during her college years that Tai Lihua met the love of her life.

But before that, Tai Lihua also received the pursuit of an exotic young man.

In 1993, Tai Lihua went to Malaysia to perform with her troupe.

One day after the performance, an audience member suddenly wanted to meet her.

Tai Lihua was a bit strange at first, she didn't know anyone here.

Tai Lihua realized that it was the son of a rich businessman in Kuala Lumpur.

This rich man actually brought 999 roses waiting for her.

And it was his family that funded the organizers of the show.

After seeing Tai Lihua's performance, this rich family man took a fancy to Tai Lihua.

But when the young man's parents hear that Tai Lihua is deaf and mute, they don't want their son to have any second thoughts.

After all, with his family's power and influence in the area, how could they marry a woman with a physical defect?

But their son is ironclad and must date Tai Lihua.

And he also gave a tough word to his parents that if they didn't agree, he would leave everything behind and go to China to pursue Tai Lihua.

This puts Tai Lihua in a situation where she doesn't know what to do.

Previously, Tai Lihua also yearned for love, but she never envisioned that love would come in such a form.

Especially in a foreign country, she didn't know whether this young rich man, really saw himself?

Or is it just an impulse because he watched her performance?

After thinking clearly about these, Tai Lihua understood how to choose.

The next day, the rich man came again, hoping that Tai Lihua could give him an answer.

There was already a language communication barrier, and Tai Lihua could not speak.

Tai Lihua told the other party that she was full of love for her hometown and friends, and would not leave her family who had given so much to her.

This exotic encounter is considered a small episode in Tai Lihua's love.

And when she first met the other half of her life two years later, it was full of coincidences.

It was the end of 1995, and Tai Lihua was going to her aunt's house in Wuhan.

As it happened, there was no one at home, so she stood alone in the hallway, not knowing what to do.

At that moment, the door next door opened and a young man asked her who she was looking for.

Tai Lihua originally wanted to use sign language to communicate with him, but thought that the other side will not, so he took out a pen and paper to write down the original reason.

The young man then invited Tai Lihua into his home.

The two began to communicate with pen and paper, and it turned out that the young man's name is Li Chun, a student at the Central China University of Science and Technology.

And so, they had a nice chat.

When they left, Tai Lihua and Li Chun also left each other's contact information.

Li Chun's heart, remembered this lovely and honorable girl, that night he had a sleepless night.

Soon, Li Chun wrote a letter to Tai Lihua.

Tai Lihua, who received the letter, went to Huazhong University of Technology to look for Li Chun.

Coincidentally, the first person who asked at the school happened to be in the same class as Li Chun.

Fate has thus tied the two together.

The two people gradually had a relationship.

When Tai Lihua was not studying, she often performed with her art troupe.

Once she had to go to Hong Kong to perform for half a month, and when she came back, Li Chun gathered all her feelings and thoughts from those days into words.

Reading these words, Tai Lihua knew that although there was a physical barrier between her and him,

but the two hearts have gradually come together.

Tai Lihua and Li Chun began to fall in love.

After this, although Li Chun did not specialize in learning sign language,

but the body language between him and Tai Lihua, only two people can understand.

Love is sweet, but Li Chun in his relationship with Tai Lihua, but still received a lot of resistance.

But Li Chun persevered.

In 2003, he and Tai Lihua entered into marriage.

The two had a son after their marriage, with a lively personality and looks more like his father.

Before Tai Lihua and Li Chun got married, she once again came to Kuala Lumpur to perform.

Again at that same theater, after the show, Tai Lihua met the rich boy again.

He was waiting, and when the posters for Tai Lihua's show were put up on the streets of Kuala Lumpur,

the rich kid came back.

A few years passed, but he never got married, and he was still full of admiration for Tai Lihua.

Tai Lihua's heart, both shocked and an indescribable feeling.

She did not expect that far away in a foreign country, there is actually a so infatuated admirer.

She told him that she was about to get married to her beloved, and hoped that he would find his own happiness as soon as possible.

Some time after the marriage, Tai Lihua was busy with performances while Li Chun was pursuing graduate studies.

Texting became an essential part of both people's lives.

At that time, Tai Lihua performed abroad more than 150 times a year.

At Carnegie Hall in New York, the exhibition room was filled with posters of all the artists who had performed there.

In 2000, Tai Lihua and her "Spirit of the Bird" posters hung on the walls of the hall.

After a performance in Poland, Tai Lihua and the girls went backstage to change.

The host suddenly came to the backstage and said to her,

The whole audience, including the Polish president and his wife, applauded and wanted to see you again.

They were already removing their make-up for the next program,

and the host had to go backstage and tell the audience that the actors were deaf and were preparing for the next program.

Many in the audience were in tears when they learned that the actors could not hear the applause.

For Tai Lihua, such times should be the happiest moments.

Because she felt that she could also support herself through labor, and also bring pleasure and enlightenment to the audience.

In 2004, the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Athens, Tai Lihua received an invitation.

In order to prepare for the program, they began a daily ultra-intensive training.

As soon as they debuted with the dance "My Dream", the applause of the audience almost drowned out the music.

At that time, Tai Lihua could not hear the sound, but she could see and feel it all.

After that, she received an invitation to perform at the Spring Festival Gala.

In order to achieve the best performance condition, she insisted on waking up early and running every day.

In the 2005 Spring Festival Gala, Tai Lihua danced the "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy".

In the silent world, she brought the audience an exceptionally dazzling touch.

Almost overnight, Tai Lihua's name spread through the streets of China.

After that, Tai Lihua began to work as the captain of the Chinese Disabled People's Art Troupe's actor team and the assistant to the troupe's director,

and she became the troupe's mainstay.

And wherever she is in life, she never stops talking to her husband, Li Chun.

In the past, when there was no smartphone, every time she went out, her husband would send her a colorful ringtone.

Andy Lau's Love You 10,000 Years is almost a standard on Tai Lihua's cell phone.

She once said that life can't be chosen, but the angle of looking at life can be changed.

Once at a very young age, her father bought her a copy of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales.

Inside there is a story called "The Red Dancing Shoes".

A pair of beautiful red dancing shoes is very attractive.

When the daughter wears them, the dance will be very light and energetic.

All the girls want to get these shoes and dance in front of the crowd in them.

But a lot of people just think about it and don't dare to wear it.

Because whoever wears these shoes will dance forever until they die of exhaustion.

Eventually, it was a brave girl who wore the shoes.

By the time people found the girl the next day, she was lying in the green grass.

The tireless red dancing shoes were right next to the girl.

It was such a small fairy tale that gave Tai Lihua a great shock.

At that time, the ignorant Tai Lihua thought that the dance, only very brave people will go to dance.

And the feeling of childhood gradually took root in Tai Lihua's heart.

This dance was decades in the making.

Nowadays, Tai Lihua has gradually moved from the stage to behind-the-scenes management work.

The pursuit of art has turned into a new responsibility and test in front of her.

In Tai Lihua's eyes, the dream never stops.

And her delicate dance is forever fixed on the grand stage.
