Development history of figure skating
Figure skating originated in Britain in the18th century, and then developed rapidly in Germany, America, Canada and other European and American countries. The figure skating competition held at that time was the so-called British style, rigid and formal, which was far from modern figure skating.
1863, American Jackson Hynes, known as the father of modern figure skating, combined skating with dance art and traveled to Europe, enriching the content and form of figure skating. 1868, Daniel Maye and George Maye of the United States performed the pair skating for the first time. 1872, Austria held the first figure skating competition.
1896, the first world men's single figure skating championship was held in Petersburg, Russia. 1906, the first world women's single figure skating championship was held in Davos. 1952, the first world ice dance championship was held in Paris.
