2. WU GANG cut laurel: It is said that there is a laurel tree 500 feet high on the moon. There was a man named WU GANG in the Han Dynasty who was obsessed with fairy tales and didn't concentrate on reading. So the emperor was furious and asked him to cut down the osmanthus tree in the moon palace, saying, "Cutting down the osmanthus tree will have magic." WU GANG began to cut laurel trees, but every time WU GANG cut an axe, the tree wound healed immediately. Day after day, WU GANG's desire to cut laurel still hasn't come true.
The Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon: the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon is the most famous fairy tale about the moon in China. It is said that Chang 'e was forced by Feng Meng. In desperation, she ate two pills of elixir given by the Queen Mother of the West to her husband Hou Yi and flew to the Moon Palace. However, there are several versions of the legend. For thousands of years, many poets have been opposed to the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon's poems. Chang 'e should regret stealing the elixir.
4. Tengu eats the moon: "Tengu eats the moon" is actually a lunar eclipse, but the ancients didn't understand this before. According to legend, in ancient times, there was a son named Mu Yulian. He is a good Buddha, but his mother is very cruel. She tricked the monk into eating dog meat all over the sky. Finally, the fairy punished her and turned her into a dog. She was dissatisfied and wanted to swallow the moon and turn the world into darkness. But in order to atone for her mother, Manglietia constantly repaired and finally became a Tibetan Buddha.
5. Toad and Jade Rabbit
Legend has it that there are not only Chang 'e and WU GANG, but also toads and jade rabbits on the moon. People also use the Jade Rabbit to refer to the moon, such as "Jade Rabbit Rising to the East". Where did the toad and the jade rabbit come from? There are also many legends. As mentioned above, one is the three sons born by WU GANG's wife and Bo Ling, and the other is that the toad was transformed by Chang 'e. Huai Nan Zi says: "Heng E stole the moon and entrusted himself to the moon for the sake of the toad, but for the sake of the moon." Later, the sound of "Chu" changed to "rabbit", and toad and rabbit coexisted in the middle of the month. Later, toad was expelled, leaving only the Jade Rabbit in the Moon Palace.
It is also said that after the Goddess Chang'e flying to the moon's death, the Jade Emperor became furious and turned Chang 'e into a jade rabbit as a punishment in the Moon Palace. It is also said that after Chang 'e flew, Hou Yi missed him day and night, and finally became a jade rabbit, who stayed with Chang 'e all the time. Now we know that toad and jade rabbit are the shadows of the valley on the moon.
