Henan, anciently known as the Central Plains, is regarded as the center of China and the hub of the world, and is reputed to be in the middle of heaven and earth. Henan is located in the east-central part of China, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River. The province lies between latitude 31°23′-36°22′ north and longitude 110°21′-116°39′ east.
Henan's topography is generally high in the west and low in the east, surrounded by the Taihang Mountains, the Fuyi Mountains, the Tongbai Mountains, and the Dabie Mountains in the north, west, and south, respectively, and distributed in a semi-annular shape along the border of Henan Province, with the North China Plain in the center, east, and north, the Nanyang Basin in the southwest, the mountains of west Henan in the west, and the Dabie Mountainous Region in the southeast.
