Focus on participation

One day, I watched a badminton match, and in the post-match interview, a famous athlete who lost the match summarized the reason why he lost, and then said lightly, "It's all about the participation," he said.

I really don't agree with this. Competitive sports are different from popular sports in that they are all about winning. This athlete has lost his motivation to compete to a certain extent when he has lost sight of winning. He has lost his charm in my mind, and I don't know when "it's all about participation" became a mantra for professional athletes to justify themselves.

My understanding is that "participation" is meant to be encouraging, encouraging people to take an active role in something that doesn't interest them but is very meaningful. For example, if a child doesn't want to participate in a sports competition because he doesn't think he can win anyway, then parents and teachers will use "participation" to encourage him so that he might participate.

I remember when I was in middle school, a student in my class who had signed up for the 10,000-meter race suddenly got sick, and the teacher came to me hoping I could run in her place. When I heard that, I immediately waved my hands and shook my head. I used to participate in the school games, the longest run 400 meters, 10,000 meters is a distance I have never run, think of running 25 laps around the 400 meters of the large playground, my heart trembled.

But the teacher was relentless, he just couldn't watch the class lose points, and at that point abstaining was a point deduction.

"It's all about participation, as long as you participate, even if you run last, it's still a credit to our class."

In this way, I took part in the first 10,000-meter run of my life. When I wanted to give up in the middle of the run, our homeroom teacher was beside me, loudly cheering me on:

"Hang in there, keep up."

Finally, with the shouts of my classmates, I crossed the finish line second to last.

"Participation" made me finish the 10,000-meter run, which I didn't even dare to think about before, and I fell in love with sports from then on, and then it was much easier for me to take part in the long-distance running competitions.

In the face of difficulties, when you want to retreat, "participation" may be able to push you to go forward. The key word in "participation" is participation, but what happens after participation? After the participation may have a higher pursuit, to reach a new height.

But for the full-time staff, but also to "focus on participation" to demand their own, it seems to be a little too low goal. Take the sports competitions, square dancers learn square dance, is to exercise for the purpose of the body, will not be compared to who dances the best. But for professional athletes, competing for first place is always the goal.

Famous basketball player Kobe, in order to compete for the title, every morning at four o'clock in the morning to the court training, when others asked him the secret of success, he said: "You've seen four o'clock in the morning in Los Angeles? I see it every day."

Athletes, especially professional athletes, should fight for the first place as long as they stand on the field. Although there is only one first, can not force every athlete to be the first, but have a heart to fight for the first is still necessary. It's hard to imagine that an athlete who thinks "it's all about participation" will try his best to be the first, and his goal may just be to finish the race successfully.

The Chinese women's volleyball team used their own actions to explain what is the spirit of the women's volleyball team to fight for the first place, and their goal on the field is to "raise the national flag and play the national anthem". And those who attack "a slow, two see, three do not move", when retreating with the eyes of the defense of the athletes, only in the loss of the ball lightly with a sentence "to participate" to excuse themselves.

When did "it's all about participation" become the excuse for some people not to be aggressive?

There is nothing wrong with "focusing on participation", the key is to understand "focusing on participation" with a positive attitude, "always strive for the first" is the purpose of "focusing on participation". The purpose of the "participation" is to be the first to win.
