What does each section of the Yao Dance sound like?

The piece begins with a danceable rhythm played softly by the bass instruments, as if the girls are beating their beloved long drums, and the song and dance are about to begin.

After the introduction, the orchestra's gorgeous, bright-toned gaohu plays a quiet, gentle theme, like a fair lady dancing with grace. Then the pipes, the sheng and the bassoon play the main theme, the stringed instruments with active, pentatonic scale-like up and down patterns as a backdrop, the girls have played the long drum, join the dance, the mood gradually rose, people are active. At this point, the music enters the first theme derived from the three strings and ruan played by the rough and enthusiastic Allegro passage, indicating that the young man can not help but break into the ranks of the girls jumping up and down with joy, this melody is repeated, strengthened, rendering a warm and joyful atmosphere of the dance. After the music reaches its first climax, a slower and weaker transitional phrase leads to a contrasting middle section. At this point the piece shifts from D-feather to D-gallery, changing to 3/4 time, with a major/minor shift in the dominant and contrasting tonal colors.

The melody of the middle section is highly stylized. The flute and sheng and chorus, fresh and melodious, continuous, sometimes with singing, sometimes jumping rhythmic patterns, just like a pair of lovers in the side of the song and dance, mutual expression of affection, longing for a happy and beautiful future.

The third section reproduces the opening theme, with the orchestra in full voice, pushing the music toward a climax. In the final coda, the orchestra's instruments compete in repeating patterns, and people join in the dance, immersed in a carnival, laughing, twirling, singing, the atmosphere is getting more and more enthusiastic, more and more exuberant, and the piece ends in a strong all-acoustic climax.
