Li Lingyu: Out of the Haze, Challenge Yourself

[edit]

In 1987, a tape of a song called "Sweet, Sweet, Sweet" spread throughout China, with sales of more than 8 million tapes. People bought the tape in droves because they loved the sweet singer on the cover, who was Li Lingyu, an actress who performed songs and dances from various countries in the Oriental Song and Dance Troupe in the form of songs and dances. Because her album "Sweet, Sweet, Sweet" sold so well, and because her voice was the "new voice" in Chinese singing, she was hailed by record companies as China's "Queen of Sweet Songs.

Eighteen years on, Li Lingyu talks calmly about her illustrious history as she sits in a bar near Women's Street. She said she was born in the early 1960s, a teenager away from home to Beijing alone into the literary and artistic groups, do actors face is the audience and their applause, the most important thing is that, in her early childhood by the national advocacy of "self-reliance, hard work", "not proud of victory, not discouraged by defeat! ", "Modesty makes progress, pride makes people backward", "not afraid of suffering, not afraid of death", "collectivism is higher than individualism" and so on. She was influenced by these concepts, so she appeared to be very rational in the face of honor. But she did enjoy the benefits that fame brought her, such as a big increase in performance opportunities and income. As her albums were released and sold well, more and more people loved her. Gradually, this kind of favoritism from fans or non-fans made Li Lingyu feel heavy pressure to the point of serious rebelliousness. When she walked on the street or went shopping at the mall, she would be recognized by people, and wherever she went, she would cause a commotion and a crowd of spectators, and she could not wander around freely or buy goods without being disturbed like an ordinary person. She is especially uncomfortable when she sees strangers looking at her differently. This strong allergic psychological reaction makes her tired of going out of the house, and even more reluctant to contact strangers. Friends invited her to go out to karaoke, she must let her friends to the names of the people who were there to say again, there are not familiar with the people she will never go. Li Lingyu said, once she went to a group of friends' party, originally said that all acquaintances are good friends, but play to the high spirits when a Li Lingyu do not recognize the person, her good mood all of a sudden bad up, face is very difficult to see. Her sudden change affected everyone, so the party broke up early that day.

Some people familiar with Li Lingyu said that this self-isolation and rejection of strangers had a lot to do with her premature entry into family life without the space for independence.

The failure of her marriage caused Li Lingyu to have a deep fear of getting married again, and as a result, she suffered many setbacks in her relationship. It wasn't until she met the man of her dreams in Canada, got married, got pregnant and had children that she gradually became gentle and cheerful. But what really made her realize the meaning of being happy and living a positive life was something that tore her heart out.

Li Lingyu has a bosom friend, a few years older than Li, they have known each other for many years, can be said to have a good relationship with each other, and talk about everything. She is divorced and lives with a daughter. Best friend of the girlfriends love in front of Li Lingyu nagging some trivial things, dissatisfied with the things also always love to whine, the character of the blunt Li Lingyu sometimes kind words of advice, and sometimes also down on her. 2003 the fifth day of the first month of the first year, Li Lingyu had been and best friend of the girlfriends in Beijing together with the "broken five", but she took the car to go to Shanxi. At night on the highway back to Beijing, her best friend called Li Lingyu to report safety. Li Lingyu blames her best friend for not listening to others. Someone had warned her best friend a month ago, "the fifth" do not get on the highway before, or there will be a bloodbath. Li Lingyu and her best friend to talk for half an hour, and finally hang up the phone actually made her best friend is not happy. Midnight, Li Lingyu home phone rang, she thought it was her best friend to the home, a pickup, is a friend called, said her best friend in the highway car accident, about her to visit together. On the way to the local hospital, Li Lingyu desperately trying to control their emotions, she imagined her best friend lying in a hospital bed, covered with all kinds of tubes, limbs tied with white bandages, but she can still whisper, she asked Li Lingyu to feed her water. All the way to the hospital, Li Lingyu was thinking this way. When she arrived at the local hospital, all Li Lingyu saw was the gruesome remains of her best friend.

Li Lingyu said, their own childhood has shown the character of a boy, teenagers away from home, through the storms and ups and downs, the practice of their own has long been no woman's fragility, she acted decisively, inner fortitude. But when she saw her best friend leave her, she was heartbroken, broken-hearted, and in pain. Li Lingyu took care of her best friend's affairs and buried her in a mausoleum near the Thirteen Tombs. Li Lingyu in front of the heart-shaped marble tombstone drank up a bottle of fine Erhotou, tearful eyes caressing the tombstone, murmuring words that hate their own girlfriends and friends too demanding. Suddenly a gust of wind rose and blew the wreaths of flowers offered by everyone shook. Li Lingyu stopped talking and the wind calmed down. Li Lingyu was surprised that her best friend could sense her spirit in heaven, and she knew that her best friend understood her heart.

Li Lingyu's Love

Li Lingyu: Learning to Love in a Walled City

The Love Affair

In 1980, at the age of seventeen, she was admitted to Beijing's Red Flag Troupe of Yueju Opera, and then later to the Oriental Opera and Dance Troupe. It was here that she met her first boyfriend, whom she married at the age of 21. In 1987, the beautiful and sweet-singing Li Lingyu recorded her first solo album and became known as the "Queen of Sweet Songs".

In 1993, Li Lingyu suffered a career downturn and her marriage failed miserably. Faced with the double blow, she quietly traveled east to Japan to work as a TV host.

1995, Li Lingyu from Japan back to China, in Beijing for immigration procedures to Canada, she met with Canadian Jews Jerry, he is the president of Canada's Mecom Investment Ltd. at that time, the two did not leave contact information.

September 20, 1995, a friend in Toronto about Li Lingyu to attend a party in Montreal, Li Lingyu song has not been sung, has long been the applause, sitting on the stage of the Jerry listen to as if intoxicated, and suddenly he slammed his head, "Ah! Isn't this the little girl from the license in Beijing?"

After the party was over, Jerry found Li Lingyu, panting with his translator, and asked for her phone number. Not even five minutes after returning to Toronto, she received fiery red roses from the florist Jerry had commissioned.

When Jerry called later, he was afraid that Li Lingyu wouldn't understand, and invented a stupid way to read each word to Li Lingyu one by one, appearing to be extremely patient. Li Lingyu thought that this person is really interesting, but she did not think about the feelings. After suffering a failed marriage, she had become cautious. But Li Lingyu has become accustomed to holding the handset in one hand and the "fast translation" in the other, and Jerry calls every day. The calls got longer and longer, and the two got to know each other better.

On October 1, 1996, Jerry accompanied Li Lingyu after the Fourth of July and took her to the beach for a stroll.

Looking at the charming scenery of the seascape, suddenly Jerry was like a juggler holding out a large bouquet of colorful roses, facing Li Lingyu on one knee, a pair of hands holding up the roses.

"I send you nine roses, on behalf of the sky---" Jerry wanted to propose to Li Lingyu in Chinese, but he forgot the words in the middle of his sentence. He had to hold the roses in his right hand and pull out his "Quick Translate" from his jacket pocket, which he had been using all day long.

"I'm sending you nine roses, which means the sky will last forever! You are the woman of my heart---" Jerry forgot the words again and had to do the same thing.

"You are the goddess of my heart! Marry me!"

Lee Lingyu didn't have a single idea in her mind, she smiled and helped Jerry up, but didn't say yes to his proposal.

The clash of East and West

Li Lingyu wanted him to leave, so she left without saying goodbye and "fled" back to China. She didn't realize that Jerry would come after her only a day after she arrived home.

Li Lingyu went wherever Jerry went. But Li Lingyu only focuses on chatting with her friends, leaving Jerry out in the cold. The friends saw Jerry was cold, not only not angry, but also very gentlemanly to show understanding, they have to have a good feeling about him. The parents also accepted Jerry.

On April 12, 1997, the couple got married in Shanghai.

Jerry is Jewish and has a strong sense of family and desire for expression. He put Li Lingyu's birthday on his calendar, and flowers and candlelight dinners were essential every year. On the morning of Mother's Day, he always buys carnations in advance and writes "Happy Mother's Day" in his son's voice.

Li Lingyu, who has been a big talker since she was a child, finds candlelight dinners romantic, but thinks it's more enjoyable to call on a group of friends and family. She is someone who often forgets even her own birthday, so she rarely celebrates it.

On Jerry's birthday in 2002, he traveled from the United States to his home in Beijing with great excitement. He assumed his wife must have prepared a beautiful birthday present for him, and he knocked softly on the door of his home, humming the song "Sweet Sweet Sweet," which she had taught him to sing.

Li Lingyu was happy to see her returning husband and embraced him with a passionate kiss before calling to ask a friend to go to a hotel.

"Ma'am, you're so sweet!" Jerry said with a happy face. But Li Lingyu didn't even know that it was her husband's birthday, so she didn't buy any gifts, and even less birthday cake. They went to the hotel not to have a birthday party, but to eat hot pot.

Jerry sat in the car, his wife did not have a word of birthday wishes, and it was at this time, his good friend from Canada to give him a birthday blessing phone call, Li Lingyu just suddenly realized, she hastened to ask the companion of the best friend to get off to go to help her to buy flowers, order a cake. When the cake and flowers were delivered, Jerry's eyes were moist. But Li Lingyu knew that he was not touched, but aggrieved, because he so valued his birthday was forgotten by the closest people.

This incident has touched her a lot, and she knows that marriage not only needs to be managed, but also pay attention to the details, or else it will bring great harm to her beloved ones.

In 2000, her son Jiexi was born, for the education of their son, Li Lingyu and Jerry, a couple who had never argued, finally started a "conflict". Li Lingyu feels that children sometimes have to be forced to discipline, even at the expense of using "force"; while Jerry believes that the child made a mistake should be allowed to face the wall until he admits his mistakes. Where their children go to elementary school has also become an issue of contention, Li Lingyu thinks that Canadian elementary school are too loose, Jerry thinks that Chinese elementary school are too burdensome and too restrictive for children. After a heated debate, they each gave in: they could go to elementary school in Canada, but to a private school, which would be relatively strict.

Learning to be a good wife

With a failed marriage and now a transnational one, and with friction always present due to differences in culture and living habits, can Li Lingyu be a successful wife?

Her husband is a Westerner, and his diet is very different from China's. Li Lingyu thinks very carefully about what she cooks, and she cooks whatever her husband likes to eat. Li Lingyu prefers vegetarian food, such as greens, eggplant, cabbage, soy products, etc. But her husband is not used to eating Chinese food, so she specializes in making his favorite dairy products.

In order to give her husband and children a healthy stomach, Li Lingyu also specializes in making soup, which she feels is the best way to combine the best of Chinese and Western cuisine. She makes soup for them every day of the year. When her husband leaves the house every morning, she also puts a vitamin in his mouth to replenish the micro-vitamins he needs for the day.

And Jerry, no matter how heavy the work is, never passes on the work pressure to his wife. Once, when he came home from work, Li Lingyu joked with him, "I want to eat the spaghetti you made." "Sure, I'll make it for you." Li Lingyu was busy saying, "Forget it, you're too tired, don't do it, do it next time."

"No, you want to eat, I'll do it right away, I'm not tired." After he finished speaking, he rolled up his sleeves and walked happily into the kitchen. Li Lingyu was touched.

Li Lingyu cherished this hard-won happiness, and she felt that in order to keep her marriage fresh for a long time, she must have her own career, and at the same time, both of them should have their own independent living space. So after the second time into the marriage, she began her first failed marriage seriously summarized. She felt that: no matter what kind of man and woman, only by learning to you in and out, I in and out, always pay attention to each other, tacit cooperation, can form the most harmonious and beautiful scenery in life. In addition, she feels that she must have her own career in order to be truly happy. Li Lingyu has repositioned and changed herself.

The career-minded Li Lingyu was no longer satisfied with being her husband's good wife. She later took the plunge and registered her own company in Beijing, Huayu Tiandi Culture and Media Co, Ltd, of which she is the general manager and artistic director.

In 2004, Li Lingyu played the role of Concubine Gui in the TV series "The Secret History of Filial Piety and Zhuang" directed by You Xiaogang, which later drew a very good response after the TV series hit the airwaves. Attentive viewers will find that after the ups and downs of her life and career, Li Lingyu is still beautiful and sweet.

April 13, 2005, China's first cell phone downloadable three-dimensional network musical "Adventure in This Life" officially broadcast to the world, Li Lingyu played the role of the sun goddess "Jade" in the play, and astronauts from the Earth "Hua" in the solar system. "

The movie is the first of its kind in the world, and it is the first to be broadcast worldwide.

On November 6, 2005, Li Lingyu reappeared in front of her fans with her latest album, "Beautiful People", which cost more than one million dollars to create. As soon as she appeared on stage, she was warmly welcomed by three layers of fans who had already been waiting at the signing site.

Li Lingyu, who has entered marriage for the second time, has gradually learned about life. When the flowers and applause are fading away, she should learn to let go. After a long exile and search, she finally found her well-being from a beautiful marriage - to be a woman who is loved and a mother who goes to love.
