The Roc Bird Dance has been passed down in the Dai area of Ruili City, and it is performed at festive gatherings and celebrations. According to legend, a long time ago, the rain god ran away, the sky does not rain, the earth is dry and on fire, the roc bird is hatching eggs for the survival and interests of all beings, take the initiative to give up the good time to give birth to children, rushed up to the sky, and the rain god fight. After several battles, the roc bird defeated the rain god, and it rained on the old day, and people lived until today. In order to show and commemorate the deeds of the Roc Bird, human beings began to dance the Roc Bird Dance. It can be seen that the Roc Bird Dance was developed from the rain-praying sorcery of the ancient ancestors of the Dai people. This dance reproduces the scene of the heroic struggle between the legendary roc bird and the rain god, and eulogizes the noble spirit of the roc bird for the sake of all living beings, not afraid of evil, defiant and courageous. When dancing this dance, it is usually performed by men wearing masks and holding props. The dancers are agile, with steady steps, moving and leaping, and are both strong and soft, accompanied by elephant foot drums, rows of points and cymbals, while the onlookers applaud and cheer.
