The two most common knee problems are:
Tendinitis: inflammation and pain of tendon itself or tendon sheath around tendon.
Swelling: Too much fluid accumulates in the synovium (the diaphragm in the knee joint capsule), which may be a sign of potential disease. This stagnant liquid may be blood, or it may be increased synovial secretion, which is caused by the reaction of synovial membrane to some kind of inflammation or overuse.

For mild knee discomfort, ice, painkillers and recovery activities may be enough, but persistent swelling or pain requires medical care. The doctor may suggest raising the knee joint, applying concentrated dressing or stent, and temporarily applying ice.
It can also be suggested to use crutches to reduce the load on the injured knee, at least initially. Doctors also prescribe painkillers. After the treatment of acute injury is completed, physical therapy is usually very beneficial. More serious injuries may require recommending a doctor for identification.
