Is the manual fixed focus lens really good?

How about a manual fixed focus lens? Personally, I think that under the current technical level, manual fixed-focus lens has no advantage at all.

Manual lens is the main force in the era of camera non-automation, which is widely used in mechanical film cameras.

Manual lens is purely mechanical, and its advantages are as follows:

1. Durable. Simple structure, solid metal material, very durable, long service life.

2. It feels good. The mechanical fixed-focus lens is very smooth by twisting the focusing ring, with excellent hand feeling and long focusing stroke, which is suitable for precise focusing.

3. Bring your own aperture ring. Manual lens can realize manual adjustment of the aperture, because manual lens has a special aperture ring, which can change the aperture without camera operation.

Apart from the above two points, I can't think of anything better than the current lens.

Since the automatic focusing of the lens was realized, the manual lens gradually withdrew from the historical stage. Because autofocus is faster, easier to operate and faster to respond, slow-paced manual lenses are less and less advantageous in automation. In addition, SLR cameras that support autofocus cancel the matte focusing screen with manual focusing. Using manual focusing lens on automatic camera can't accurately judge the focusing situation, and it can only be judged by real-time display screen, so the shooting efficiency is not high.

Some friends think that some manual focusing heads have a unique flavor, which is actually limited to playing and can't be used for work at all. If we want to compare the image quality with the current high-end lenses, those manual lenses have no advantage, and they can't compare with modern lenses in sharpness, edge image quality, maximum aperture availability and Jiao Wai blur softness. It's just that the so-called "color" seems to have some "film flavor", but it's just a subjective assumption, which is not a problem at all in the face of powerful post-color matching software.

Then some friends will say that high-end brands such as Zeiss still keep manual fixed-focus lenses. Are these tall lenses not as good as Japanese automatic ptz? To tell the truth, personally, the manual lenses that these old German lenses are still producing have no advantage in terms of indicators. You may buy these lenses just for the sake of psychological superiority. If these lenses are high-end, it may just be a brand premium, plus some optical coating, and the rest is just selling feelings.

Of course, we must admit that in the professional field, manual fixed-focus lenses still have advantages and markets. The focal plane still uses a lot of manual fixed focus lenses. There are professional follow focus personnel in this field, and the optical quality of the lens is extremely high, which pays more attention to the optical imaging quality than the camera lens, and the manual control also meets the shooting requirements. However, these films are expensive at first, and most people can't afford them. Even when shooting, the crew mostly uses the rental mode to complete the shooting task.

If you just play photography, at this stage, regardless of your feelings, I really don't recommend choosing a manual fixed-focus lens. No reflex lens of mainstream brands, whichever one is taken out, the imaging quality is excellent, and the automatic performance is also very high. Coupled with the blessing of optical anti-shake performance, it can bring excellent experience to photography creation, so you don't have to fiddle with manual pan/tilt.

Just focus manually. Nowadays, all lenses are resin lenses, and some early lenses in Germany used first-class optical glass lenses. For example, Haley Gang and Depression Gang in Rodensted, most people don't want to use other lenses after using them. I used Cai Dong p6 and some early Mamiya in the middle frame. Rodenstein and Schneider are used for large format. With these lenses, the weight is definitely not light, but I personally like to use the key machine. If physical strength is not good, use automation.

1. Generally speaking, there is no dog head in the fixed focus, and the optical quality of the fixed focus lens is generally good.

The optical quality can be very high, and it is no problem to use it as still photography. Just twist it slowly. Modern autofocus technology is more efficient and has better quality for sports photography, shooting wild animals, shooting babies and other occasions that need to focus quickly and accurately.
