1, jumping strings
Jumping strings because the dancers hold the "cigarette box" with both hands while knocking, so it is also known as the "cigarette box dance". The Cigarette Box Dance is popular in the areas inhabited by the Nisu people, a branch of the Yi ethnic group, in the central and southern parts of Yunnan Province, such as Honghe, Shiping and Jianshui. The dance is categorized into two types: "Chordal" and "Miscellaneous Chordal". The "Chord" is a combination of self-indulgent dance and performative dance for two people, with the main traditional pieces such as "Mute Chopping Chai" and other beautiful and light dance styles.
The "Miscellaneous Chord" is further developed on the basis of the "Orthodox Chord", and is a kind of song and dance sketches that express characters and have a storyline. Among them, there are more than a hundred representative programs such as "Mute Fish" and "Children Worshipping Goddess of Mercy". The local saying, "If you don't dance the string, you'll live for decades in vain," illustrates the important position of "Dancing String" in people's lives and hearts.
2. Luosuo
Luosuo, also known as "Luosuo", is another kind of circle dance popular among the Nisu people of the Yi tribe on the south bank of the Red River in Yunnan Province. The tune is cheerful and jumpy, with a strong and distinctive rhythm, accompanied by rapid hand-waving, staggering, foot-stomping and other dance movements, especially favored by the youth. The number of dancers is not limited, more than an even number of circles, and there is a certain program to lyrical singing to start, singing next to the band accompaniment.
3, jumping three strings
Jumping three strings, also known as the big three strings, jumping moon, is the central region of Yunnan Province, the Yi subfamily of the A fine people, the Sani people favorite self-entertainment dance. Accompanied by large, medium and small sanxian and bamboo flutes of different tones, it is an indispensable dance of the Torch Festival.
When the bonfire was lit, people jumped and rotated around the bonfire, with short steps and stuttering feet, jumping steps and rubbing feet; clapping hands and folding legs. Harmonious steps and intense movements show the nature of "fire".
4. Felt Dance
The Felt Dance is a dance form unique to the Yi ethnic group in Liangshan, Sichuan Province. The dancers use the felt as props and imitate the posture of the eagle and the bear by stretching, closing, swinging and rotating their arms and bodies. This dance has now become the representative performance dance of the Yi people. The shiqi dance is a sacrificial dance in the ancient rituals of the Yi people, which is an expression of reverence and worship to the ancestors and nature.
