Legend of the Aegean Sea:

Legend has it that in the Mediterranean Sea there is a small island called Crete, and the king of the island is called Minos. At that time, Aegean, king of Athens, had a valiant and warlike son named Theseus. Before leaving, Theseus made a pact with his father that if he could kill the Minoan bull, he would hoist white sails on their return voyage. The idea was that the old king would know his son was alive as soon as he saw the black sails on the ship turn white.

After arriving in Crete, Theseus' handsomeness aroused the love of Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos. When this princess learned of Theseus' mission, she gave him a magic sword and a ball of string to prevent the man she loved from being harmed by the evil beast Minoan bull.

When the clever and valiant Theseus entered the labyrinth, he tied one end of the ball of thread to the entrance of the labyrinth, and then let go of the ball of thread and walked along the twisting and complicated passages towards the depths of the labyrinth. Finally, he finally encountered the monster Mino Bull, after a bitter battle, Theseus used the magic sword given by Princess Ariadne to kill Mino Bull. He then led the young man and woman out of the labyrinth.

In order to prevent the pursuit of King Minos, Theseus and his men chiseled through the bottoms of all the Cretan ships on the seashore. At that time, Princess Ariadne, because of her love for Theseus, boarded a ship with them to return home.

After days of sailing, Theseus saw his country, and everyone was unusually excited, singing and dancing. But because of this momentary joy, Theseus forgot his agreement with his father not to change the black sails to white.

Waiting for his son's return, Aegean kept watch every day on the seashore. When he saw that the returning ship had black sails, he was so pained that he thought his son had been eaten by a monster and jumped into the sea to kill himself.

Later, people called the sea where King Aegean jumped into the "Aegean Sea" to honor him.

The Aegean Sea has a very curvy coastline with many harbors and bays, and *** there are about 2,500 islands of various sizes.
