The movie "Sinister Souls" directed by Wilson Yip and starring Liu Yifei, Louis Koo and Yu Shaoqun was released on April 19, 2011 in mainland China. The movie is adapted from the chapter "Nie Xiaoqian" in Volume 2 of the short story collection "Liaozhai Zhiyi" written by Pu Songling, a famous novelist in the Qing Dynasty, which mainly tells the story of the feud between a demon hunter and a thousand-year-old tree demon as well as the emotional entanglements between Nie Xiaoqian, Yan Chixia and Ning Caichen.
