Main routes in Qinghai-Tibet region

The main routes in the Qinghai-Tibet region are mainly composed of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and several highways.

Railway: Qinghai-Tibet Railway, with a total length of 1956 km and an altitude of over 4,000 meters and 960 km, of which 550 km passes through the plateau permafrost region. Its highest point is located at Tanggula Pass, with an altitude of 5072 meters, and it is covered with snow all year round. It is known as "the closest railway to the sky" and "the highest railway in the world".

Highway:

(1) China-Nepal Highway (Lhasa-Kathmandu)

It starts from Lhasa and passes through Shigatse, Dingri, Nyalam, Zhangmu, Friendship Bridge and Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. China-Nepal Highway is 943 kilometers long and 829 kilometers in Tibet. 1965 is the only open international highway leading to Southeast Asia in Tibet.

(2) Sichuan-Tibet Highway (Lhasa-Chengdu)

The southern line runs from Chengdu, Ya 'an, Kangding, Dongeluo and Batang in Sichuan, Mangkang, Zuogong, Bangda, Basu, Bomi, Linzhi, Bayi, Gongbu Jiangda, Mozhugongka and Dazi in Tibet to Lhasa, with a total length of 2 146 km, belonging to National Highway 3 18 (from the east)

The northern line from Chengdu to East Elo coincides with the southern line, then branches off from East Elo to the north, passes through Ganning, Ganzi, Dege, Tibet Jiangda and Qamdo, reaches Bangda and coincides with the southern line, and reaches Lhasa, with a total length of 24 12 km.

(3) Qinghai-Tibet Highway (Lhasa-Xining)

Xining, Daotang River, Chaka, Golmud, Wudaoliang, Tuotuo River, Yanshiping, Tanggula Pass, Amdo, Naqu, Dangxiong, Yangbajing and Lhasa. The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is 528 kilometers in Tibet, and the Golmud-Lhasa 1 140 kilometers in Qinghai is managed by Tibet.

(4) New Tibet Highway (Lhasa-Yecheng)

The Xinjiang-Tibet Highway starts from Yecheng County in Kashgar, southwest Xinjiang, passes through Pishan County, Hotan County and Ritu County in Ali, Tibet, and enters Gaer County to shiquanhe town, the capital of Ali. From there, it passes through Pulan County bordering India and Nepal to the south, and then passes through Zhongba County, Saga County and Angren County in Shigatse area to the east. It is located in Chawu Village, Chawu Township, Lazi County, Shigatse area, and National Highway 3 18.

(5) Yunnan-Tibet Highway (Xiaguan-Mangkang)

The Yunnan-Tibet Highway (National Highway 2 14) starts from Jinghong in western Yunnan in the south, crosses the virgin forest of Hengduan Mountain, crosses the Jinsha River, crosses Baimang Snow Mountain and Hongla Mountain at an altitude of more than 4,300 meters, passes through Mangkang, Zuogong, Changdu and Leiuqi in Tibet, reaches Duopuma on the Qinghai-Tibet border, and reaches Lanzhou, Gansu, 803 kilometers away from Xizang Autonomous Region.
