Maybe it’s a Burmese custom
Burmese dance can be divided into two categories: ancient drama dance, which is derived from classical arts such as Burmese puppet show, classical drama and Aying dance. After the emergence of the "Thirty-seven Divine Songs" in the Burmese literary world in the 16th century, during the Konbaung Dynasty in the 18th century, different dances were choreographed for each god, forming a systematic set of sacred dances.
Through the spread of folk dance and worship activities, it developed into a palace puppet show. Later, some of the programs in the puppet show and the different dance movements of various puppet characters were largely transplanted into modern Burmese dance. Such as worship dance, immortal dance, boluo dance, male and female puppet dance, etc. Among them, the God Worship Dance was renamed the Palace Maid Dance and became the opening program used in modern Burmese drama and dance performances. The "puppet steps" and "puppet crawling" in the puppet dance have become the basic movements of modern Burmese dance.
