Male Sang is a collective ritual of burning mulberry. It burns the mulberry tree on a specific day and has a specific theme, so it is more sacred. That's why Gongsang has always been restricted to adult males only. On this day, every family sends a representative to the festival, and all the "leaders" come.
The main ceremony of the Gonsang will be held at the Zangkang Hall of Nyendohu Monastery. The Zang temple is where the temple protector lives all year round. Being the protector of the village temple, it naturally becomes the protector of the villagers. The sang starts from Nyendu capital Hochi Square and faces the white pagoda-style triple-stewed stove outside the Tibetan Kham Hall. People gather around the incense burner and try to make offerings of cypress leaves and barley fried noodles to their patron saint. It is said that the mountain gods like to smell incense. Mulberry burning is fueled by pure-smelling cedar boughs.
More than 20 monks began chanting. The men take bottles of wine from their Tibetan robes and slowly pour them into the temple's wine pool as the lamas chant. Northwesterners can drink wine. A local proverb says, "Han Dynasty Tibetan painting two, ancient jade four, ancient jade five." Qinghai and Gansu are multi-ethnic regions. The brother ethnic groups arrange seats according to the amount of alcohol so that they can be flexible in the banquet hall. Of course, this is just a vague statement, or even a joke, jokes do not have to be taken seriously. But anyone who has been to the Northwest can certainly appreciate the "true meaning" of the phrase.
I noticed that the incense burner in Zangkang Monastery is quite special. It is a private burner. A groan came from the stove in the hall. A closer look revealed a piece of meat burning, weighing 89 kilograms. Cai Xiang Duojie, a teacher specializing in folklore studies in Huangnan Prefecture, said that Nendu Village enshrines several gods who like to eat meat. The temples of these gods are separate houses.
The practice of "meat-eating" here can be traced back to the blood sacrifice tradition of Benjaminism, a local religion that existed before Tibetan Buddhism was introduced to the region.
In Tu, there are two types of group dances in this village. A whole village drinks milk tea together. Before that, we should collectively recite the sutra. How many times should a person recite the "six words of truth"?
There are eight production teams in this village every year. Let the teams live in pairs. It originated with the establishment of the ancient master and servant tribes. The servant tribes were good at breeding horses.
