The Umbrella Dance is a lyrical dance that originated in the Minangkabau region. The dance aims to express the beautiful love between a man and a woman. The male dancers wear brightly colored costumes, hats, and umbrellas, while the female dancers wear Minangkabau "sarongs" made of gold threads, which are very ethnic in nature. The male dancers mainly wave their umbrellas left and right to express their care for the female dancers. The entire dance is accompanied by lively and joyful music unique to Minangkabau. In the earliest days, it was performed by a man and a woman, accompanied by a male voice, and later developed into a performance by 4-5 pairs of men and women, with one pair playing the role of the newcomer.
