Can we directly use cattle and sheep manure as base fertilizer for potato planting?

Potato is widely planted in Enshi, and most of them use livestock manure as planting base fertilizer. Can it be used directly? Brother Xueyan thinks that planting potatoes can't directly use cattle and sheep manure as base fertilizer. Fresh cattle and sheep manure not only contains a lot of undigested decomposition products (protein, cellulose, fat and other nutrients and a lot of water), but also generates a lot of heat during fermentation, which is easy to cause seedling burning. In addition, fresh cattle and sheep manure also contains a large number of germs, which is easy to bring harm to the later growth and spread of pests and diseases.

Potato planting in Enshi area of China mostly uses farmyard manure such as pig, cow and sheep manure as base fertilizer, and rarely uses chemical fertilizer, and some even do not use chemical fertilizer. Potatoes are of good quality and taste. Enshi small potatoes have been popular all over the country for a long time, and naturally they cannot be separated from planting chemical fertilizers. Cattle and sheep manure is mainly omnivorous plants with loose texture, rich in mineral elements and comprehensive nutrition, which belongs to high-quality farmyard manure. Applying fully decomposed cattle and sheep manure base fertilizer to potatoes can not only ripen soil, improve soil fertility and supply nutrients needed for potato growth, but also enhance soil buffering capacity and air permeability, improve soil aggregate structure and physical and chemical properties, increase organic matter content and promote potato growth.

Then, how do we use farmyard manure when planting Enshi small potatoes?

1, farmyard manure accumulation Our local farming basically adopts the model of soil circle+stocking, and the cattle and sheep manure in the circle will not be cleaned directly at ordinary times. Leave a corner in the feeding pen for animals to excrete. Usually put crop stalks into the circle. Some cattle and sheep will eat it, which is inexhaustible and directly used to absorb the feces and urine of cattle and sheep, and slowly settle down under the trampling of cattle and sheep. Layer by layer, it will be used after a year of accumulation.

2. Preparation before using farmyard manure Our Enshi area is basically interplanting potatoes and corn. After deep ploughing in autumn, farmyard manure accumulated in cattle and sheep pens for one year will be moved to the ground, placed in piles according to the amount of fertilizer used, and put into potato planting after natural baptism such as wind blowing, rain beating, sun exposure and freezing. This operation is also to let the farmyard manure enter the secondary fermentation to prevent seedling injury after planting.

3, farmyard manure uses our Enshi to grow potatoes, farmyard manure and potatoes are in direct contact. After careful harrowing, the plot is dug, planted after digging, then fertilized and finally covered with soil. When using farmyard manure, try to break it up, so that potato seedlings can be better unearthed. On the one hand, applying farm manure to seeds is to make potatoes overwinter better and prevent seeds from freezing injury; On the other hand, it is beneficial to improve the utilization rate of fertilizer. Under the action of rain, nutrients will sink into the soil around potatoes, so that potatoes can be better absorbed.

In a word, Zuimei Xueyan thinks that the use of farm manure must be thoroughly fermented. Not fully decomposed farm manure will not only fail to achieve good results, but will have a negative impact on soil and crops.
