Wei Minghua, an expert in the study of Qing songs, points out, "Its predecessor was the 'Flower Tune', which has been sung in the Lisha River area of northern Jiangsu for hundreds of years. Its lyrics have been included in the collection of local operas, 'Embellished White Fur', compiled by the Qing Dynasty's Qian De Cang."
