Han Ying in Honghu Red Guard is played by Wang Yuzhen. Wang Yuzhen, born in 1935, female, a native of Shinyang, Hubei. She is a famous opera performer and a national-level actress. She has served as vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Dramatists Association and vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Federation of Literature. She is a deputy to the Third and Fifth National People's Congresses, and a deputy to the Eighth and Ninth Beijing People's Congresses.
In 1959 and 1961, Wang Yuzhen successfully played the heroine Han Ying in the opera of the same name and the movie "Honghu Red Guard", and has been popular in the north and south of the Yangtze River ever since. Her portrayal of the heroine Han Ying has become one of the classic images in the memory of several generations.
Wang Yuzhen's Early Years
Born in 1935 to a poor family in Shahu Township of Shinyang (now Xiantao City) in Hubei Province, Wang Yuzhen never dreamed as a child that she would become an artist who made a living on the stage.
In her early childhood memories, the deepest impression was poverty and hunger. She remembers a week when the family had no food to eat, and every day it was rice mixed with bean paste. Such a situation is not bad, the worse is when it is impossible to uncover the pot. So her wish then was to be able to eat and feed herself.
Since her parents came to Wuhan as a child, after the liberation of Wuhan, 14-year-old Wang Yuzhen enrolled in Wuhan Qiaokou District Cultural Center to learn sewing, wanting to master a trade, self-reliance.
Wang Yuzhen, 14, signed up to learn sewing at the Qiaokou District Cultural Center in Wuhan, wanting to master the craft and earn her own living. After two days of learning, she was attracted to a singing class next to the one she had been running since she was a child, and boldly recommended herself to the teacher, who took her in after she sang an audition for one of the songs.
Shortly after the 1950 National Day performance, she was assigned to play the little boy in "Little Cowherd", and as a result of her outstanding performance, she was recommended to take the examination for the Hubei Provincial Cultural Art Troupe. In the singing class with the examination of the four people, only one of her was accepted. The road of her singing thus formally began.
