Everyone Leaders, distinguished guests, distinguished teachers, and distinguished students:

Good morning everyone!

A warm welcome! We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Shandong Provincial Department of Land and Resources, Shandong Provincial Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development Bureau, Shandong Provincial Geological Society, Jinan Municipal Land and Resources Bureau, Linyi Municipal Land and Resources Bureau, Rizhao Municipal Land and Resources Bureau, and Weifang Municipal Government for their hard work in organizing and enthusiastically supporting our event. Bureau of Land and Resources, Mengshan Tourism Area Management Committee, Zhucheng Dinosaur National Geopark, Mengyin County Bureau of Land and Resources, Pingyi County Bureau of Land and Resources, Zhucheng City Bureau of Land and Resources, Shandong Geological Survey Institute, Shandong Academy of Geological Sciences, Shandong Geological Surveying and Mapping Institute, Shandong Geological and Mineral Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and other co-organizers would like to express their heartfelt thanks!

Since the Geological Society of China established the National Youth Geoscience Summer Camp in 1980, with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Land and Resources, the China Association for Science and Technology, local governments, competent departments, industry geological survey units and society organizations, Since then, more than 10,000 young people have participated in this activity, traveling all over the country. The National Youth Earth Science Summer Camp has become an important place to popularize earth science knowledge to teenagers and help them establish good habits of loving nature, cherishing resources, and protecting the environment from an early age. It is one of the most distinctive and influential youth summer camps in the country.

Geological work and youth science popularization work have always been highly valued by the Party Central Committee and the State Council. The State Council's "Decision on Strengthening Geological Work" clearly stated that it is necessary to increase the content of earth science in primary and secondary school teaching, increase publicity efforts, and popularize knowledge of earth science, resources and environment, geological hazards, etc. The youth geoscience summer camps we organize are a concrete manifestation of learning and implementing the important deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. We hope that through the geoscience summer camp activities, we can work with young friends to build a stage for promoting geoscience culture, and a stage for popularizing geoscience knowledge, protecting the natural environment, cherishing earth resources, and improving the quality of geoscience science and culture. We also hope to turn the Earth Science Summer Camp into a large classroom where young people can increase their knowledge, hone their will, experience collective life, and receive patriotic education.

Students, the relevant departments of land and resources of Shandong Province have set up a very good platform for us in this National Youth Geoscience Summer Camp, which is a rare opportunity for learning and exchange. Through the inspection, you will acquire earth science knowledge that was difficult to obtain in the classroom in the past. Not only will you enjoy the gorgeous scenery of beautiful Shandong, but you will also get a workout in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic aspects. Yimeng Mountain is the most important old revolutionary base during the Chinese Revolutionary War. Yimeng has been praised by countless descendants of the revolution as the "Holy Land of the Two World Wars, Red Yimeng"; the Diamond National Mine Park is known as the "Hometown of Diamonds", and the mining relics in the mine park Rich and complete types; Shandong Tianyu Natural History Museum is the world's largest natural geology museum and the world's largest dinosaur museum; Zhucheng City is famous for the unearthed giant duck-billed dinosaur fossils and is known as the "Hometown of Hadrosaurs"; Baotu Spring ranks first among the 72 famous springs in Jinan and is known as "the best spring in the world". It is also the first famous spring in Jinan to be found in ancient documents.

I hope everyone will cherish this rare opportunity, observe carefully, learn with humility, think positively, increase knowledge, and exercise abilities. At the same time, you must abide by discipline, care for each other, help each other, obey commands, ensure safety, and spend a short time in beautiful Shandong. And meaningful happy time!

Here, I also hope that all staff and teachers will be highly aware of the importance of this activity, conscientiously perform their duties according to the unified arrangements for summer camp activities, firmly establish the concept of safety first, and effectively Implement the safety responsibility system, divide labor and cooperate, carefully carry out various safety work and emergency plans such as traffic safety and food safety, strive to provide good services for summer camp activities, and create a good learning and living environment for campers!

Finally, I wish the 2014 National Earth Science Summer Camp a complete success! I wish everyone a safe journey and a fruitful return!

Thank you everyone!

Speech by Wang Yuzhi at the opening ceremony of the 2014 National Youth Geoscience Summer Camp

Speech by Wang Yuzhi, Deputy Director of the Department of Land and Resources of Shandong Province

Dear Deputy Wang Yan Director, experts, teachers, and students:

Good morning everyone!

In accordance with the unified deployment and requirements of the 2014 National Youth Geoscience Summer Camp of the Geological Society of China, this year’s summer camp will be held in our province. On behalf of the Shandong Provincial Department of Land and Resources, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone, and The young friends participating in this summer camp would like to express cordial greetings. Shandong is hospitable and welcomes everyone!

Shandong is a cultural and mining province and the birthplace of Confucian culture. Shandong Province has a long history and rich culture. Confucius and Mencius, the founders of Confucianism, Mozi, the founder of Mohist thought, and military strategists Sun Zi, Sun Bin, and Wu Qi were all born in Shandong.

Shandong Province borders the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, faces the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese Archipelago to the east, and faces the Liaodong Peninsula to the north. The land is about 420 kilometers long from north to south and more than 700 kilometers wide from east to west. The total area is 156,700 square kilometers, accounting for approximately 1.6% of the country's total area, ranking 19th in the country.

The landforms of Shandong Province are basically divided into two parts: plains and mountains and hills. The plains are mainly distributed in northern Shandong and western Shandong and are basically structural subsidence areas. Mountains and hills are distributed in central and southern Shandong and eastern Shandong, and are structural uplift areas. The overall landscape of Shandong is as follows: the mountains in the central part of the province are uplifted and the terrain is the highest, the hills in the east and south are gently undulating, and the plains in the north and west are broad.

Carrying out geoscience summer camp activities is a public welfare activity to popularize geoscience knowledge. During the activities, through teaching relevant geological knowledge, field inspections and visits, students can understand geological science, broaden their horizons, fully realize the role of geology in resource development, environmental protection, etc., and cultivate young people's interest in geological science and love for it. Geology career is also of great significance to improving students' comprehensive quality and practical ability. There are about 200 teenagers participating in the summer camp, coming from all over the country. During the event, it coincides with the flood season in our province. Campers are asked to pay close attention to preventing geological disasters and put safety first.

Dear experts, teachers, and all campers, let us wish the 2014 National Youth Geoscience Summer Camp a complete success! Thanks!
