Yanji is the capital of Yanbian Prefecture in Jilin Province, located in the center of Yanbian Prefecture, at the northern foot of Changbai Mountain. Yanji is a border city with strong Korean flavor and rich tourism resources.
The first time I went to Yanji, I clocked in the Mt. Manga National Forest Park, the Korean Folk Village, Yanbian Museum, and People's Park.
Many cities have a "People's Park", and Yanji is no exception. Yanji People's Park is located on the banks of the Yanji River in the city, and you can see a bilingual signboard at the entrance.
The DPRK People's Park is not only a civic park, but now the landscape is getting richer and richer. It has also become a must-hit niche tourist attraction for those traveling to North Korea.
Yanji People's Park has a very long history, dating back to the 33rd year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty. It was initiated by Border Superintendent Wu Luzhen during his visit to Yanji and has a history of more than 100 years.
Yanji People's Park was also known as "Commercial Bureau Park" because it was a place for the Bureau of Commerce to engage in foreign affairs during the Republic of China period, and it was renamed "People's Park" in 1953, making it a truly century-old park.
Yanji People's Park, after more than a century of construction, not only is the landscape richer, but the atmosphere is getting stronger and stronger. The square in front of the park is particularly lively with square dancers sunbathing every day. It is the most lively and popular park in Yanji.
In 2004, People's Park was upgraded in a series of ways. After the remodeling, the People's Park is even more beautiful. There are pavilions, wooden chairs, ancient trees, pools and so on everywhere in the park, and the most striking of them is the pavilion by the square of People's Park. The whole pavilion has a unique shape, yellow and green glazed tiles, vermilion pillars shining in the distance, like a building in a palace.
This pavilion was built in the thirty-third year of the Qing Guangxu reign. The pavilion we see today was rebuilt in 1990 and it has a history of more than 30 years. The pavilion is a wooden octagonal pavilion, typical of the Ming and Qing court architecture. Now it is also a place for citizens and tourists to rest and cool off.
As the most popular park in Yanji, a walk to People's Park naturally doesn't require an entrance fee, but it will be richer in the future. In addition to the existing zoo, ecological landscape, carved plaza, recreational trails, there may be a lot of recreational activities in the future, which will certainly be more lively.
