In the winter of 1979, a group of Zhuang lyricists, including Gudi, went to Longlin De'e Township to experience life. At that time, it was the dike day, only to see the Yi girls dressed in colorful costumes, joyfully shopping for their favorite fabrics, small crafts, and then walk back to the cottage with their partners. The girls laughed and laughed all the way back to the village.
Gudi and several choreographers of the Song and Dance Troupe were y impressed and decided to take the scene of the girls on their way back from the pike as an entry point to choreograph a Yi dance, reflecting the dramatic changes in the countryside of the ethnic minority areas after the reform and opening up, and demonstrating the happy life that the Party's good policies have brought to the people. So, Gudi and Huang Youyi wrote the theme song for the dance, "Returning from Catching Weiwei," which is the theme song for the dance.
