The Wusuli Boat Song is gorgeous, smooth, novel and unique. On the basis of the original folk songs, the stop tone of phrases is adjusted to make the contrast between phrases more obvious. Hezhe folk songs have the characteristics of repetitive phrases, repetitive rhythm, pentatonic scale, stable range, simplicity and lightness. These characteristics are well reflected in Wusuli boat songs, which sounds like "singing at the bow and singing in the waves".

Creation background

1962, in order to participate in the second "Summer in Harbin", the lyricist Hu Xiaoshi was entrusted by Guo Song to collect songs in Hezhe residential area of Heilongjiang. In the days when he lived with Hezhe people, he got creative inspiration. He hit it off with composer Wang Yuncai and singer Guo Song who had collected songs in Hezhe residential areas before, and after grinding for two or three months, he wrote this song.

The main theme of this song is Guo Song's re-creation and adaptation based on Hezhe folk tunes "I miss my love" and "My hunting brother is back".
