Yang Liping, born November 10, 1958 in Eryuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, is a female dancer from mainland China. She is a Chinese female dancer, national-level performer, recipient of the State Council's "Government Special Allowance", member of the Expert Committee of the Chinese Folk Dance Level Examination, and vice-chairman of the Chinese Dancers Association.
In 1971, she joined the Xishuangbanna State Song and Dance Troupe, then transferred to the Central Folk Song and Dance Troupe, and became famous for her Peacock Dance. 1992, she became the first mainland Chinese dancer to perform in Taiwan, and in 1994, her solo dance, "The Spirit of the Sparrow," was awarded the Gold Medal for the 20th Century Dance Classics of the Chinese Nationalities.
In 2009, with the success of the sister piece of "Reflections of Yunnan", "The Sound of Yunnan", she became the first dancer in China to hold a solo dance party.On December 20, 2019, Yang Liping was elected as a part-time vice-chairman of the Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Yunnan Province.On February 2, 2021, she was elected as the 11th vice-chairman of the Chinese Dancers' Association.
In 2004, the large-scale original song and dance collection "Reflections of Yunnan", which she choreographed, directed and starred in, won the Gold Medal for Dance Poetry, Best Actress, Best Choreographer, Best Costume Designer, and Outstanding Performance in the Fourth Chinese Dance "Lotus Award".
In 2005, she was awarded the Montblanc International Art Sponsor Award for her original song and dance collection "Reflections of Yunnan". She made an outstanding artistic contribution to the presentation of Yunnan's ethnic culture, and thus became the Mainland's 2005 winner of the award.
