The visual elements of the planetary engine, which is fueled by 10,000 planetary engines in the movie, were set up and shot in Studio 12 of the Film and Television Industry Park. In order to present the spectacle of the earth wandering in space, the art team designed more than a dozen versions of the program from the line drawing, coloring to the dynamic preview, and refined the details of the setup workshop.
Special Effects Shots
"Wandering Earth" had 4,000 visual effects shots in the early stages of the first cut, which were eventually whittled down to 2,200, a number that still exceeds the amount of footage in some regular movies. Fifty percent of these were difficult visual effects shots, and also challenged a lot of full CG shots, such as the use of full CG shots of Shanghai being built into an ice wall, etc.
The film also set up a special UI team responsible for the design of all the gauges and display screens in the film. In order to improve the sense of realism, so that the screen reflection on the actor's face face light and eye interaction more realistic, the crew insisted on live-action UI shooting throughout.
