We ate dinner at Chen's little school. The heat had receded. The sun had set over the hillside, leaving only a section of brilliant red haze in the sky, over the hills, and over the treetops.

We walked down a gravel path and quickly made our way to the river. There was a thatched water pavilion there. Passing through the water pavilion, we found a couple of small boats under two big trees by the river.
One by one we jumped in one of the boats. A friend untied the rope, picked up a bamboo pole and the boat moved slowly, flowing toward the middle of the river.
Three friends rowed the boat, and Ye and I sat in the boat looking around the scenery.
In the distance a tower towered over the hillside, embraced by many green trees. There are very few towers like that around here, and that's where my friend Ye is from.
The river was wide and there were no waves on the white water. The boat flowed calmly across the water. The three oars ply the water at regular intervals.
At one place the river narrowed. Clusters of green leaves reached out to the water. The leaves were lovely green. It was many lush banyan trees, but I could not see where the trunks were.
