Swing dance is a collective term for a group of dance styles that developed from the 1920s through the 1940s with the swing style of jazz, each of which predates what is commonly referred to as the "swing era". There were hundreds of different styles of swing dances during the Swing Era, but the main ones that have survived are: Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Boogie Woogie, and Charleston.
The most famous of these dances is now the Lindy Hop, which originated in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the early 1930s.
