The original creator of "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy" is called "Zhang Jigang".
In 2004, a dance called "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy" made a splash at the closing ceremony of the Paralympics in Athens. "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy" was created by choreographer Zhang Jigang and performed by 21 deaf and mute performers with an average age of 21.
Zhang Jigang, in an interview with reporters, talked about the process of creating the China Disabled People's Art Troupe's version of "Thousand-Handed Goddess of Mercy," saying, "From 1996 to 1997, I found that there were Thousand-Handed Goddess of Mercy statues and sculptures in many places of interest, and the ones that made the most impression on me were those in the Shuanglin Temple in Pingyao, Shanxi province, and the Chongshan Temple in Taiyuan, China. and the Thousand-Handed Goddess of Mercy statue in the Chongshan Temple in Taiyuan, of which the one in the Chongshan Temple is still the Thousand-Handed Thousand-Eyed Goddess of Mercy.
Of course, I also saw the Thousand-Handed Goddess of Mercy in the Yungang Grottoes, which gave me a great shock, and I wanted to create such a subject, but then the subject was put down.
When the China Disabled People's Art Troupe visited the U.S. in 2000, I was the artistic director, and we felt that we should create a dance with such a theme.
The music composer at the time was Wang Luming, and the composer of the version of 'Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy' that was later featured at the Paralympics in Greece and at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala was Zhang Qianyi."
At the Spring Festival gala, "Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy" won the first prize for the most popular program. The China Disabled People's Art Troupe registered the copyright for the dance "Thousand Hands Goddess of Mercy".
