Why do you feel complicated after reading "City Lights"?

Chaplin still tells you the love story of a little tramp in a playful and absurd way. After being in a good mood, it is sad to calm down and think about it. I remember Stephen Chow talking about his comedy view before. He said that the essence of comedy is tragedy.

Chaplin's little tramp met a blind girl on the roadside, fell in love at first sight, and was eager to help others out of trouble. Desperately, he himself is a tramp abandoned by society, homeless and unaccompanied. How can he save this flower girl? Ironically, instead of helping the poor, he saved a millionaire and became friends with him. The rich man promised the tramp to help the blind girl. All this seems to be going well.

However, the rich man is addicted to alcohol. When he was drunk, he regarded the tramp as a friend and asked for his warmth and help. When you are awake, you ignore him and turn a blind eye. Life plays jokes on this little tramp again and again. In order to help the girl, he stepped into the boxing ring, but he was weak. Compared with the refugees who were five big and three thick, he was a snack we should have. Of course, the only thing waiting for him after hard work is failure. But Chaplin will never make you cry at the movies. He racked his brains to make the man lose interest. Chaplin's flexible body movements in the ring and interesting dealings with the referee opponents will only make all the people watching the movie laugh, and even after watching it, you will cry because of the memories.

Behind the changeable personality of millionaires, just like the rules of making friends in modern society, snobbery and selfish desires are exposed. This seems to worry us. What will the flower girl do to the poor tramp if her eyes see again? The fact is that Chaplin went to prison and was released six months later. The flower girl recognized the tramp and said, "Is that you?" The tramp laughed. "Can you see it?" "Yes, I can see now." The film ended lightly here, as if nothing had happened. It can be regarded as a beautiful hope that Flower Girl can regain her sight. Encouraged by sadness and looking for light in the dark, we will see the real world one day.

The light of the city is the optimistic attitude of homeless people, the miracle of the flower girl's last look, their re-understanding of love after suffering, and the light of hope in life. The movie certainly ends with a happy ending. Although Chaplin completely gave up the narrative of the reason why the flower girl regained her sight and why Chaplin was released from prison, what's the point? Life is not a drama, there are no ups and downs and exaggerated plot settings in the drama, and we are not manipulated by writers with pens. Life is your own. Without this bloody plot, it is the right way to live every day.
