In 1964, in order to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the National Day, under the direct support of the relevant leaders of the Central Government, music and dance workers from more than 70 local and army systems in Beijing and Shanghai, and members of Beijing's various amateur choruses***3500 people collectively created and choreographed An unprecedentedly large-scale music and dance epic - "The East is Red". This is a singing, dance and theater combination of comprehensive art, art form comprehensively reflecting the history of China's nearly 100 years of democratic revolutionary struggle of the magnificent large-scale song and dance music. The performance of "The East is Red" created a new form of large-scale song and dance performance.
The epic "East is Red" by the prelude "sunflower to the sun", as well as "the dawn of the East", "starburst prairie fire", "thousands of mountains", "anti-Japanese beacon", "bury the Chiang dynasty", "the motherland people stand up", "the motherland in the advance", "the world in the advance" of the composition of eight scenes. In order to reproduce the authenticity of history, many revolutionary historical songs that have had a wide impact in history are quoted in this large-scale song and dance music. The composers processed these popular folk songs and revolutionary songs artistically, matched them with large-scale song and dance scenes of extremely stylized features, together with the superb performances of famous singers and dancers, and the whole performance had a touching atmosphere.

The premiere was held in the Great Hall of the People, where party and state leaders watched the performance and walked on stage to congratulate the success of the show. The following year, the large-scale music and dance epic P "Red East" was filmed into a color widescreen stage art film.
