Early years
Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, to a poor family of farm workers in Mississippi. As a child, he often sang gospel in church.In 1938, his father was imprisoned for tampering with landowners' and employers' bills, and the family home was foreclosed upon, so Elvis had to move in with relatives.In 1941, Elvis enrolled in EastTupeloConsolidated for elementary school.In 1945, he entered the Mississippi - Alabama State Fair and took second prize with the song "OldShep".

Enlistment experience
In January 1953, Elvis Presley registered with the Memphis Draft Board. Under the U.S. draft law at the time, any young man 18 years of age or older who was physically fit was obligated to serve two years of military service, followed by four years of reserve duty.
On December 20, 1957, Elvis Presley received his notice of enlistment, and on March 24, 1958, he was officially inducted into the U.S. Army under the number 53310761.He joined his comrades and went to Fort Shaffee Barracks, Arkansas, for recruit training. After recruit training, Elvis was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division for tanker training. Elvis Presley's music transcended racial as well as cultural boundaries, blending blues, country, blues, bluegrass, and gospel into a unique style with a distinct personality, full of impassioned sexual energy and a sense of rebellion that spawned the era of rock 'n' roll.
