Creative background

The work was first serialized in "Hong Kong Commercial Daily" from 1957 to 1959, and was later included in "Collection of Jin Yong's Works". Together with the later "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "The Legend of Heaven and Sword of the Dragon", it is known as the "Condor Trilogy" of Jin Yong's novels.

Since New Year's Day in 1957, "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" has been serialized in the "Hong Kong Commercial Daily". Occasionally it would stop when Jin Yong fell ill. For example, on April 18, 1959, the editor confessed, "Mr. Jin Yong "Due to illness, 'Shooting the Condor' was suspended for two days" and resumed on April 20.

According to Jin Yong’s self-report: When he wrote "The Condor", he was working as a screenwriter and director at the Great Wall Film Company. The books he read during this period were mainly Western drama and drama theory, so there are some plots in the novel. The handling of the film is unknowingly dramatic, especially the long section of the healing room in the Niujia Village secret room, which is completely based on the scenes and characters of a stage play.

Many changes have been made to "The Legend of the Condor Heroes". When Jin Yong revised it, he deleted some plots that were not necessarily related to the story or characters, such as the little red bird, the battle between frogs and clams, the murders of the Iron Palm Gang, etc.

The character of Qin Nanqin was removed, and she and Mu Nianci were combined into one. Some new plots were also added, such as Zhang Shiwu’s storytelling in the opening scene, Qu Lingfeng’s stolen paintings, and Huang Rong’s coercion. Carrying a sedan chair and encountering the rain in Changling, Huang Shang's process of writing the "Nine Yin Manual", etc.
