Ballet term Arabesque: (Arabesque) One of the basic terms of ballet. It is named after a leaf-shaped floral pattern. There are four basic dance positions.

First Arabesque: (First Arabesque) The body is in a third orientation. The right leg is stretched out as a supporting leg and the left leg is extended backward. The right arm is extended toward the front of the body, slightly above the shoulder, palm down. The left arm is extended to the left side, slightly below the shoulder, palms down.

Second Arabesque: (Second Arabesque) The body is in a third orientation. The right leg is straightened as the supporting leg and the left leg is extended backward. The left arm is extended toward the front of the body, slightly above the shoulder, palm down. The right arm is extended to the right side, slightly below the shoulder, palms down.

Third Arabesque: (Third Arabesque) The body is oriented to the third. The left leg is straightened as the supporting leg and the right leg is extended backward. The right arm is extended toward the front of the body, slightly above the shoulder, palm down. The left arm is extended to the left side, slightly below the shoulder, palms down.

Fourth Arabesque: (Fourth Arabesque) The body is oriented to the third. The left leg is straightened as the supporting leg and the right leg is extended backward. The left arm is extended toward the front of the body, slightly above the shoulder, palm down. The right arm is opened back and the right arm is extended to the right side, slightly below the shoulder, palm down. The backs of the dancers can be seen from the audience.

Attitude: (Attitude) One of the basic ballet terms. It is a dance posture stance in ballet. The body stands vertically, the supporting leg is straight, and the action leg is slightly bent at the knee, keeping it outwardly lifted into the air. Can do forward, backward Attitude.

Adagio: (Adagio) One of the basic terms of ballet. Refers to a slow, slow and serene ballet movement. In classroom training it refers exclusively to the practice of the control section.

A terre: One of the basic ballet terms. A movement made by the foot on the ground. The original meaning is on the ground.

Allonge: (Allonge) One of the basic ballet terms. Refers to ballet movements that have the nature of continuation, lengthening and stretching.

A la seconde: one of the basic ballet terms. Refers to the movement of the two side legs extended in the air. The original meaning was to open the second position.

Assemble: (Assemblée) one of the basic ballet terms. It is one of the basic jumping movements, the first leg is bent while the foot of the second leg is rubbed out in either direction, forward, sideways or backward, the foot of the first leg pushes the ground and jumps up in the air, and in the air, the second leg closes in on the first leg and lands together. The original meaning is to gather, to collect together.

Balance: (Balance) One of the basic ballet terms. It stands for a movement that swings from side to side, back and forth. The original meaning is to sway.

Battement: (Battement) one of the basic ballet terms. A general term for the outward and retracted movement of the leg to the front, side and back. Ballotte: (Ballotte) one of the basic terms of ballet. It is the basic jumping action. Five small jumps in place, the right foot through the Developpe out of the front, and then jump up again after the left foot through the Developpe out of the continuity of the jumping action. The foot that goes out can be pointing to the ground, 25 degrees, 45 degrees, 90 degrees, and so on. Ballonne: One of the basic terms in ballet. A basic jumping movement in which the supporting leg is bent, the toes of the moving leg are on the ankle bone of the supporting foot, and the supporting foot pushes the ground and jumps up while the moving foot extends forward, sideways, or backward in any direction while the knee is straightened. The supporting foot returns to the position it was in before the jump when it lands. The original meaning was balloon.

Brise: (Brise) One of the basic terms in ballet. A basic jumping maneuver in which the first foot is kicked up into the air by brushing the ground and the second heel strikes the back side of the first foot in the air landing in front of the first foot. The original meaning was broken.

Battu: (Batti) One of the basic ballet terms. A certain jumping movement foot with a strike. Original meaning is to strike.

Coupe:(Coupe) One of the basic ballet terms. A cutting movement made by one foot in front of or behind the other. The original meaning is cutting.

Croise:(Croise) One of the basic ballet terms. A movement in which all legs are crossed as seen from the direction of the audience. The original meaning is crossed.

Chasse:(Chasse) One of the basic ballet terms. One of the basic connecting movements. One foot forward, beside, back through the rubbing of the ground to extend the other foot to catch up. The original meaning is to catch up.

Cou_de_pied:(Cou_de_pied) One of the basic ballet terms. A foot position in which the toe of one foot is in front of or behind the ankle bone of the other foot. The original meaning is at the ankle bone.

Chaine:(Cherne) One of the basic ballet terms. A continuous chain-like rotation made on the full or half toes of the standing foot. The original meaning is chain.

Changement: One of the basic ballet terms. It is one of the basic jumping movements. A jumping movement in which the right front five jumps up and the left foot lands in the front five when landing. The original meaning is that the two feet change places.
