Su Shi was relegated to Huangzhou as a deputy envoy of the regiment, he made a friend, named Chen Qian, the number of Jichang. Chen Jichang is a rich Longqiu, wild and unrestrained, depending on the glory and wealth as dirt, which is just Su Shi taste. The two people are in love, and become good friends.
Su Shi and Chen Jichang have similar interests, and both like to play in the mountains, write poems and fugues, study Buddhist scriptures, but also like to drink together.
In those days, it was popular to keep courtesans in rich people's homes, so that when guests came, they could let the courtesans sing and dance to cheer them up. It so happens that Su Shi is also good at this, so he likes to come to Chen Ji Chang's house more often.
However, Chen Jichang's wife, Liu's, often spoiled their fun.
Liu's temperament, very love "jealousy". Whenever Chen Jichang with song and dance feast, she will be "jealous", holding a wooden staff shouting, hard to beat the wall, and sometimes simply rushed in to the courtesan to drive away, so that Chen Jichang is very embarrassed.
This again and again and again, and later, Chen Jichang in the home to invite Su Shi drink will not dare to let the courtesan to cheer.
However, it is estimated that the two long time heart a little itch, one night, Su Shi and Chen's guests, the two dry sitting and drinking, feeling bored, while Liu's sleep, secretly called two courtesans sing to help.
Su Chen repeatedly told the courtesans to lower their voices, do not sing the exciting song, only humming some lyrical ditties can be.
However, Liu was still awakened by the sound, listen to the side ear, anger, immediately get up and rushed over, a yell, scared the courtesans holding the pipa panic to escape, Su Shi also accosted.
The next day, Su Shi wrote a poem to make fun of Chen Jichang:
Liu's place of origin is Hedong, Su's this "Hedong lion" is an allusion to Liu. Later people used the phrase "Hedong lion's roar" to describe a fierce wife who made a lot of noise.
The lion's roar of Hedong is not unique to the Chinese.
It is said that the wife of Socrates, a famous philosopher in ancient Greece, was also a shrew. Socrates often yelled at him in front of the crowd, and even tore his hands and beat him.
Once, when Socrates was discussing an academic issue with several students, his wife, for some reason, suddenly yelled and scolded, and the students were shocked. Then, his wife brought up a bucket of cold water and poured it over Socrates, making him soaked through. When the students feel very embarrassed and do not know what to do, only to see Socrates witty laughter, and humorously said, "I had known that after the thunder must be followed by rain."
When Socrates was asked why he took such a woman as his wife, he laughed and said, "If you can tame one fiery horse, what's so hard about the others? I can put up with someone as fierce as her, and who in the world could not be my friend?"
Socrates actually did not really take his wife as a horse to tame, on the contrary, he loved his wife, and even doted on her.
Once, his wife in front of outsiders and angry, but also tore off Socrates' coat, some of the friends present at the scene are quite angry, a man instigated Socrates to give his wife two slaps to teach her a lesson, Socrates was not moved, said with a smile, "You are waiting for the two of us to fight after the applause to cheer, watch the fun? "
When his wife was worried about the shabby meal she prepared for the guests, Socrates comforted her by saying, "It doesn't matter, if they know how to reason, they will naturally accept it, and if they don't accept it, it means that they don't know what they are doing, so there is no need to be bothered about it."
Even when their son could not stand his mother's nagging and lashed out at her, Socrates seriously criticized his son for being ungrateful and taught him to apologize to his mother.
Back to Chen Ji Chang.
As the saying goes, wealth and power, in a male-dominated era like the Song Dynasty, being so rich, how many daughters-in-law does Chen Jichang want to marry that he can't? If his wife annoys him, he can completely repudiate his wife and marry again.
However, he let his wife call off the song feast, drive away the courtesan, in front of the guests in front of the face, but not to take any punishment on his wife. The first time I saw this, I was able to see that my wife was not in a state of shock, and I was able to see that she was not in a state of shock. This is not like a rich man's style.
The only explanation can only be: he loves his wife, do not want to make her unhappy, and do not want to take any action to harm her.
So, whether it is Chen Jichang or Socrates, or any other man who is afraid of his wife, in fact, they are all models of love for their wives, and their fear of their wives is just a deep love.
Deeply textured love does not stay on the surface of the love me. True love is not just accepting what you like, but also being able to accept what you don't like.
There is no such thing as love without a cause.
Socrates did not work, did not earn money, all day barefoot, wearing tattered robes, wandering among drunkards, cobblers, hawkers, old women, geisha, talking about the past and the present, pointing to the sky, his father-in-law did not like to see it, and wanted to let his daughter leave Socrates. But Socrates' wife refused to listen to her father. The father angrily pointed at Socrates and asked his daughter, "He does nothing but talk; he doesn't even have a pair of shoes, just like a beggar. Do you live with him just so you can be together and starve?"
Socrates' wife replied firmly to her own father, "I love him, and I want to be with him!"
Socrates only talks about philosophy and ignores the household, and his wife has to run all the household chores and find a way to get food for the family to live on. The hardships of life can cause a woman to become short-tempered. Socrates appreciated his wife's dedication, and even more so his wife's steadfast affection for him, so he returned the favor by loving her y, and giving understanding and tolerance to her bad temper.
Regarding Chen Jichang's wife, apart from Hong Mai's Rongzhai Suibi of the Song Dynasty, which recorded that Su Shi wrote the Hedong Lion's Roar poem due to Liu's frequent temper tantrums that disrupted the banquet, no other written records were seen, and it is not known about her feelings for Chen Jichang. However, she will listen to courtesan singing and "jealousy", just shows that she loves Chen Jichang, "jealousy" are born out of love.
So, the world of love, all the way to a law, want to let their husbands afraid of their own, on the first sincere love of their husbands.
For men, it is definitely more good than harm to spoil their wives, there is a saying: I want to spoil your temper, so bad that no one else dares to fall in love with you.
With a heart, in exchange for a piece of love, who is not bad.
