The Day of the Fifteenth Day of the First Moon is a Tibetan folk song with a light rhythm. It is also known as "The Song of Welcoming the Princess" because its content describes the scene in which the Tibetan people warmly welcome Princess Wencheng into Tibet. In addition, the first and last chorus is "Ermalingji Songla", also known as "Ermalingji", or translated as "Please Listen".
The song expresses the Tibetan people's love for Princess Wencheng, and depicts images of the local grassland (Lotus Dam), mountains, ferries, rivers, horses, yaks, rafts, carriages, plazas (Wojie Beach), Dongzhe Lane, Ka'er Cave, the Potala Palace, and pictures of beautiful girls, handsome youths, and dignified ministers.
During the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (641 A.D.), Princess Wencheng was married to Songtsen Gampo, the king of Tibet. When Princess Wencheng entered Tibet, she brought the advanced culture of the Central Plains (including a large number of production tools and technologies) into Tibet, thus playing an important role in promoting cultural exchanges between the Chinese and Tibetan peoples; the Tibetan people all revered her and praised her in the form of song and dance art.
"The Day of the 15th Day of the First Moon" is such a Tibetan folk song, in which the pomp and splendor of Princess Wencheng's entry into Tibet and the high enthusiasm of the Tibetan people are strongly expressed; it is an epic hymn.
