Essay on Gourd Festival

In the traditional culture of Lahu, the gourd is regarded as the mother of Lahu's survival and reproduction, and is a symbol of Lahu's beautiful home and happy life. Starting from 2006, the time of Lahu "gourd festival" is adjusted from October 15, 16 and 17 of the lunar calendar to April 8, 9 and 10 of the lunar calendar every year to reflect the spirit of the times and good wishes of the gourd sprouting in the spring, the glory of all things, and the development of prosperity. Symbolizing the Lahu people out of the gourd, like the sun to run to the spiritual pursuit and auspicious and happy wishes. The festival will be held in Lahu Square of Lancang Lahu Autonomous County in a series of activities to celebrate the Gourd Festival. In the evening, our family came to Lahu Square and prepared to watch the program with excitement. In the welcoming ceremony, the Lahu people blew Lusheng, scattered rice flowers and sang the song of "Happy Lahu". They performed the ritual of washing hands and tying threads; the gongs and drums of all ethnic groups were sounding in unison, and the lights were dancing in the sky, which pushed the grand and warm atmosphere to the climax. After the leaders' speeches, the ethnic folk songs and dances began. One by one, the lively songs and dances, together with the fireworks in the sky. On and off the field will be even more lively, the audience is really a feast for the eyes. Among so many lively and prosperous ethnic songs and dances, the program that attracted me the most and still appeared in my mind was "Comb Tou Tune", a Wa folk song. This song and dance tells the story of a girl under a tree, posing to comb her hair, and a Wa boy comes along again to watch the girl combing her hair, and then, they fall in love with each other, recreating the process of an Awa man and woman falling in love. When they have their happy home, all the Awa people bless them. After watching this lively program, I couldn't help but think: what a spiritual treasure we have in the Lahu nation! This show was even more wonderful than the previous Lahu festivals! I am looking forward to the next grand show.
