The school is the first light industry institution of higher learning in People's Republic of China (PRC). 1958 was founded in Beijing, then named Beijing Institute of Light Industry. /kloc-moved to Xianyang, Shaanxi in 0/970 and changed its name to Northwest Institute of Light Industry. 1978 was identified by the State Council as one of the 88 key universities in China. /kloc-0 was transferred to Shaanxi province in 1998, and was renamed Shaanxi University of Science and Technology in 2002.
