Vienna State Opera The original building was a Neo-Romantic structure that was harshly criticized when it was first built.On May 25, 1869, the first performance here was Mozart's Don Giovanni.

The rebuilt opera house, with a seating capacity of over 2,200, gave its first performance on November 5, 1955, with a production of Beethoven's Fidelio, conducted by Karl B?hm.
