historically, due to the water traffic from zhongda wharf to Tianzi wharf, the main buildings in the campus face south, and the north gate is the main school gate. The bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, the symbol of CUHK, also faces the north, which means "Northern Expedition". The main axis of Yixian is like a pen sticking out from the Pearl River, with the pen tip in the south and the pen gallbladder in the north, which means that the water is continuously absorbed from the Pearl River, that is, the elites from all over the world gather in Zhongda. Later, due to the development of the city and the opening of Xingang Road, the south school gate gradually became the main school gate. However, in recent years, the traffic pressure at the south gate is increasing, and with the needs of the overall planning of the school, the north gate has become the main gate, making the campus more attractive.
I often go to the north gate to have a breeze, which is very pleasant. Besides, many people dance in the North Gate Square at night!
