22 The Mysterious Phone Call
Near the end of the day, the guys at the bar find their boss, Posner, murdered in his own office. The knife stabbed him in the chest, and bright red blood had seeped through his shirt and dripped all over the floor. Despite the fear that the police would surround the entire hotel and investigate and question them one by one if they called the police, the bar mate called the police when it was a matter of life and death. After the guests waiting to see the hotel dancer Susie's performance had all left, Detective Inspector Derek, who arrived later, had to conduct a preliminary investigation and questioning of the bar man, the dancer Susie, and the luthier, Plaszger, who were present at the time. According to the usual practice, Susie's daughter Lena would rush to pick up her mom when she got off work. And today, because of the murder of her boss Posner, Susie had to stay behind to cooperate with Derek's investigation. To Derek's surprise, the unanimous assessment of the boss by Suse and the luthier, Plasg, was that Posner shouldn't be considered a good person. The same assessment is confirmed by Posner's wife. Not only did Mrs. Posner not express the slightest bitterness over her husband Posner's death, Mrs. Posner did not even want to participate in dealing with her husband's aftermath. In addition to the above gains, Derek also saw in Mrs. Posna's studio an oil painting that Mrs. Posna had just finished and named The Girl Under the Moon. From Posner's house, Derek found Wegner. Wegner is a staff member of the Social Welfare Bureau, outside of working hours, Wegner also opened a teahouse, specializing in the reception of some of the street begging vagrants and runaway children. Because of his work, Wegner was very familiar with everyone in the area, and Posner was no exception. Like Suz and Plasgel's opinion, Posner was also a rogue without a vice in Wegner's eyes. But the most rewarding thing for Derek was that in Wegna's teahouse, he met Lena, who was doing welfare work on the side. Seeing Lena, Derek's mind always goes to Mrs. Posner's painting called "The Girl Under the Moon". After knocking on Mrs. Posner's door once more, Mrs. Posner tells Derek that she was Lena's teacher when she learned to paint, and that Lena was often a mannequin for her own creations. In order to get to know Lena, Derek comes to Wegner's teahouse to look for Lena, and while accompanying Lena with Wegner to deliver a dog to an elderly homeless man, Derek discovers another side of Wegner as a social welfare worker. At this point in the investigation of the case, Derek seems to have found a little clue, but the clue is so vague. For this reason, Derek invites Susie, Mrs. Posner, and Plasger into his office. During Plasg and Mrs. Posner's account, Derek learns that Posner had once behaved in a lewd and indecent manner toward Lena, and had raped Lena on one occasion when she was modeling for the madam. After Posner raped Lena, Mrs. Posner called for Wegener to try to soothe Lena in Wegener's arms. However, it was all in vain. By this point, Derek has judged Posner's murderer.
