Square Dance (Modern Poetry)

Square Dance (Modern Poetry)

By Xiao Zhaojun (Wuhan, Hubei)

Limbs are no longer flexible enough

Every movement is just an attitude

The only thing that accompanies her every day

is a dog

Lying quietly on its back

The children have been too busy to come here for a long time

Dad left a few years ago

Before leaving, he said he would not bother her anymore

Since then, she has become obsessed with square dancing

She is not enough for square dance

She said she is not enough for square dance.

Before he left, he said he wouldn't drag her down anymore

Since then, she's been hooked on square dancing

She's not smart enough, but she's hard-working

She dances in a strange way, reversing her position from side to side

There's a certain stubbornness in those moves

The future is a bit far away from her

And the past has become a photo in her room

Only now is there a chance that she'll be able to get back on her feet and get back to her feet.

Only now

She is compassionate and understanding

One by one, the movements are her true expression

She knows

Perhaps the only one who really understands

is the dog

There is a certain lightness of life in its eyes

And her dance

is a waiting for a happy ending

The best of all is that she is not a dog.

The best ending

is that one day she and he

one, dancing, will become immortal

and one, watching, will die.
