Title: Silence as the Sea Le silence de la mer (2004)

Douban: 9.2 points; Running time: 93 minutes

Starring Julie Drumm / Michelle Garabreau / Tomas Jouat

"The sea is serene, learn to listen"

This is the perfect movie to fire up late at night. The beautiful and pure Bach piano music runs throughout the movie. The oil paintings, the few dialogues, the elegant gentleman and the lady, the gaze of each other, the silence and the quiet are full of silent love.

In France during World War II, the heroine and her grandfather live together in an old mansion. Suddenly one day, the peaceful life is broken by the Germans. The hero, a German captain, is arranged to live in their house, and the heroine and grandfather ignore him and express their anger with silence.

The German captain remains polite in the face of his grandchildren's indifference. He monologues every day "good morning", "good night", "did you sleep well last night". As time passes, the heroine and her grandfather get to know the hero through the monologues. He said that he enlisted in the army because of family tradition and that joining the war was not an option for him, that he loved French culture, that he was a composer before he enlisted in the army, and that the piano piece played by the heroine when we first met was one of his favorites.

Slowly, the two of them develop a secret love for each other, and in those scenes where they want to say something, those feelings that do not need to be expressed, accompanied by that helplessness and sadness

They chose to be faithful to their own hearts, but also to be faithful to their destinies and responsibilities. The first "goodbye" was also the last word between them.

Silent, silent love, deep gaze, ambiguity.

"I like the sea because I like its tranquility."

"I am happy that I can meet a dignified old man, and a silent lady."
