The 100 Greatest English Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone, the popular music magazine Rolling Stone, in association with MTV Music Television, has named the world's one hundred greatest pop songs since 1963. "The Beatles' classic "Yesterday," which has been sung for thirty-seven years, tops the list

Rolling Stone and MTV have curated the contest. The time frame was set from 1963 to the present because the Beatles' first U.S. performance in 1963 marked the beginning of the modern era of popular music. Choosing just 100 classic songs that represent this era was no easy task, as five Rolling Stone editors and programmers and researchers from MTV deliberated and scrutinized the list before settling on these 100 iconic songs.
