What is the meaning of "the moon is over the west tower"?

The moonlight has filled the West Tower

"When the geese return, the moon is full in the West Tower" is from "A Cut of Plum" by Li Qingzhao of the Song Dynasty.

The meaning of this line is: when the geese flew back in a neat procession, the moon was shining full on the west building.

The original lyric describes a girl's love, the geese come back, not seeing the brocade book, thinking of her, not overjoyed with sadness, the bright moonlight shines all over the west building, doubling the loneliness and despondency.

Li Qingzhao was born into a family of scholars, early life is good, her father Li Gefei collection of books is very rich, she was a child in a good family environment to lay the foundation of literature. After she married, she and her husband, Zhao Mingcheng***, devoted themselves to the collection and organization of calligraphy, painting and goldsmithing.

When the Jin soldiers entered the Central Plains, she lived in the south and was in a lonely situation. In the early part of his life, he wrote about his leisurely life, and in the later part of his life, he lamented his life, and his mood was sentimental.

Formally, he made good use of the technique of white description, opened up his own way, and his language was clear and beautiful. He emphasized the concordance and elegance of words, and put forward the idea that words are "another family", opposing the use of poetry and literature as a method of writing words. He was able to write poems, not many of which survive, and some of his chapters are very generous with their poetic expressions, unlike his lyrics.
