Jay Chou was born on January 18, 1979, in New Taipei City, Taiwan Province of China, and is originally from Yongchun County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China. Jay Chou is a Taiwanese pop male singer, musician, actor, director and screenwriter, and graduated from Tamkang High School.

Jay Chou's Early Years

Jay Chou was born in New Taipei City, Taiwan Province of China, and is originally from Yongchun County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China. when he was four years old, his mother, Huimei Yeh, sent him to the Tamkang Shan Ye Infant Music Class to learn piano. When he was in his second year of junior high school, his parents divorced due to personality differences, and Jay went to his mother, Amy Yeh, to raise him. In the middle school examination, he did not get into a regular high school. In the same year, he was admitted to the first music class of Tamkang Middle School because he was good at piano. After graduating from high school, he twice applied to the music department of Taipei University but was not accepted, so he began to work in a restaurant.

In September 1997, Jay was encouraged by his mother to sign up for the entertainment program "Super Rookie King" on Taipei's Star TV, where he was invited to sing a song he had written called "Dreams Have Wings". When host Wu Zongxian saw the song's score, he invited Jay to work as a musical assistant at Alpha Music.
