Main attractions: Yingshan Lake, Guandi Temple, Ancient Sophora japonica, Village Committee Courtyard, Mount Qomolangma, and Duofu Temple. To the north are the Earth Pond Giant Buddha and the Mengshi Cold Spring. Take bus 12 from Xia Yuan to Huyan Village, or take bus No.454 and No.835 from Shengli Bridge East Bus Station to Huyan Village.
If you drive, you can take about 20 expressways north along Heping North Road. You can see a magnificent archway on the west side of the road with the words "Huyan Village" written on it. You can get there by entering the arch. Yingshan Lake, located in the east of Huyan Village, covers an area of 45,000 square meters. Yingshan Lake is divided into water. There are lush aquatic plants and fish swimming in the lake. There is an island in the middle of the lake, and pavilions are built on the island. You can also row a boat in the lake. Yingshan Lake echoes the Juewei Mountain stupa from a distance, as written in the Inscription on Restoration of Yingshan Lake in Huyan Village: "Before and after dawn, the pagoda glows at sunset, and its shadow falls into the lake. The tower is like a magic pen to express the world, and the lake is like a dragon and a tiger. " Yingshan Lake has become one of the indispensable scenic spots in Juewei Mountain.
In the spring of Mount Juewei, pines and cypresses are green, and peach blossoms, lilacs and wild roses are blooming. Looking from the bottom of the Lingxiao Tower, a jade lake stands out in the fields and villages. This is Yingshan Lake in Huyan Village at the foot of Juewei Mountain. On the bank of Hubei, shrubs are planted with a line of big characters: "The tower is like a magic pen lake, it is an inkstone, and people can make great achievements", each word covers an area of about 20 square meters. Every evening, when there is no wind and the lake is calm, the stupa of Mount Juewei is clearly reflected in the lake, becoming another scenery in Mount Juewei. The ancient buildings in Huyan Village are famous for several platforms, churches, temples and monasteries.
Temple, that is, Juewei Temple, was built in the Tang Dynasty, with considerable scale and strong incense. Next to the temple is the Longwang Temple. The most attractive thing is the two iron flagpoles at the door. The flagpole is about 15 meters high and about half a meter in diameter. Each flagpole is cast with an upward climbing Shuanglong. The flagpole cornerstone is more than one person high, nearly one meter square, and there is a bucket at the top of the pole.
There is a bell and drum tower in Longwang Temple. The casting clock is more than one meter high, so it can't be held together, and it is engraved with words and patterns. Legend has it that when casting a bell, a Taoist told the temple keeper not to ring the first bell until midnight. The temple keeper had no choice but to ring the bell before midnight. Just then, when the Taoist priest walked to Zhonglou Street in Taiyuan City, the bell could only reach Zhonglou Street, and it could have spread further. Huyan Bell used to be a major attraction in Taiyuan. There are also three stages built at the same time as Juewei Temple and Longwang Temple. Hall refers to Kannonji, dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Huyan village used to be a wealthy village. During the land reform, many people were designated as landlords, and several dozens of big ancient houses still remained. The two courtyards occupied by the village committee were pawnbrokers of Li's big family in Qing Dynasty. This is the oldest and best preserved ancient building in the village. Wood carving hanging door, plum blossom carving, peach blossom and other patterns are still clearly visible. The grey tile roof made of blue bricks is as good as ever, and the architectural style of Qing Dynasty is very obvious. Next to the road leading to Juewei Mountain at the eastern end of the village, there is also a Guandi Temple with a long history. Although barren, the buildings such as the front yard, the moon gate, the main hall and the wing of the Second Hospital are well preserved. There used to be a pavilion in the center of the Second Hospital, which was supported by only four wooden pillars with a diameter of one meter. The wooden pillars are 8 meters apart, and iron bells are hung under the eaves, and the wind is jingling. This is also a unique building in Huyan Village.
In the center of the village, that is, in front of the original Longwang Temple, there is a locust tree that is still flourishing and can only be hugged by three or four people. This is one of the oldest existing Sophora japonica trees in Taiyuan. This ancient tree was once on the verge of withering. In the mid-1980s, there was a heavy rain, which lasted for a day and a night. A big hole was washed under the ancient locust tree, and the rain poured into the street was not full. Since then, this ancient locust tree has revived and prospered.
Future tourism development
Huyan village people are planting trees to improve the environment and plan to rebuild ancient buildings. With the development of tourism resources, Huyan Village will become a major tourist attraction in Taiyuan together with Mount Juewei. Every year around 10, the annual "Rising Red Leaf Mountaineering Photography Festival" will be held here at the beginning of June 6th.
