After the visit to Shanghai Expo, don't miss out on some of the classics of the city. From People's Square to the Bund is the real center of Shanghai, where every attraction and every view is a classic. Whether it's shopping on Nanjing Road or taking a night cruise on the Pujiang River by boat, you can make a compact itinerary without losing some of the leisure elements.

The Shanghai Museum opens at 9 a.m., so there's no need to go too early. The Shanghai Museum is one of China's four major museums and is now free to visit. Bronzes and ceramics are its two main specialties, and there are 21 other categories on display, including calligraphy and painting, plus exciting temporary special exhibits.

Walk 2-3 minutes west from the back door of the Shanghai Museum and you'll see the Shanghai Grand Theater, which is a simple and smooth geometric shape with a crown-like white curved roof, a classical outdoor theater and a sky garden that symbolizes Shanghai's broad-mindedness in absorbing the world's culture and art.

Walking north along Huangpi North Road out of the Grand Theater, it takes about 2-3 minutes to get to Nanjing Road, and another 2-3 minutes to the east you'll see People's Park, which was part of the old Shanghai Happy Valley. After half a day's walking, you can take a break on a park bench, and those interested in contemporary art can check out the Shanghai Contemporary Art Museum in the park. For lunch, dine at the Huanghe Road Food Street (opposite People's Park), which offers everything from seafood to a variety of simple meals at a good price.

From People's Park, head east to the famous Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, where the best shopping is between Huanghe Road and Middle Henan Road, including New World, City Department Store, First Food Store and Landmark. If you are tired of walking, you can take a sightseeing bus.

Walking along East Nanjing Road to the end is the Bund, now the Bund has been refurbished, 52 different styles of buildings witnessed the old Shanghai Bund like a dream of prosperity in the past, but also witnessed a century of Shanghai's vicissitudes of change. Although these buildings are not from the same designer and were not built in the same period, their architectural color tones are basically uniform, and the overall silhouette is amazingly coordinated.

Walking north along the Huangpu River on the Bund, you can see the restored Waibaidu Bridge, which has a 150-year history and sits at the confluence of the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River in Shanghai. As night falls, the newly installed landscape lights come on, and during the festival, the lights change to a variety of brilliant hues, including blue, silver-white and purple.

The Pujiang Excursion Pier at Shiliupu Tourist Center is the embarkation point for the Pujiang excursion, which is less than 20 yuan by taxi from the Waibaidu Bridge, and about half an hour's walk. Dinner can be settled near the pier, or you can dine on the boat (another 100 yuan per person). From the bustling downtown Shanghai to Wusongkou, where the Huangpu River and Yangtze River flow into the sea. Driving in the center of the river, looking out over the Bund complex, which is separated by a river and spans a century of vicissitudes, you can't help but feel a sense of emotion.
