"Hundred Birds Toward the Phoenix" is a folk piece popularized in Shandong, Henan, Hebei and other places.
Since "Hundred Birds Towards the Phoenix" was put on the stage, it has been processed and adapted many times. The original "Hundred Birds Towards the Phoenix", which was circulated in the folklore, has a loose musical structure, no climax, and when improvising, the rooster crows at dawn, the hen lays an egg, and even a child's cry is added at will. When "Hundred Birds Towards the Phoenix" was selected to participate in the Fourth World Youth Festival, Ren Tongxiang, a folk musician, processed the piece with the assistance of professional musicians, compressed the bird's cries and deleted the chicken's cries to address the flaws of the original piece, and designed a special cycle of air changes using the technique of the long notes of the colorful phrases, expanding the Allegretto finale, so that the whole piece ended in an atmosphere of warmth and jubilation. The piece won the Silver Prize in the Folk Music Competition at the Fourth World Youth Festival. In the seventies, on the basis of Ren Tongxiang's performance, another introduction was designed to present the mood of a hundred birds singing together to strengthen the musicality, and the colorful phrases were expanded to use fast double spatula technique to make the piece more complete.
